Harvey,

We were kind of all over as we were up there for a little over a week. We started out in Washburn, WI, then up to Bayfield, WI, then drove the boat up to Cornicopia, WI and launched it and we went viewing the sea caves. We ended up in Duluth, MN for a couple days then headed back. The wife was viewing art galleries and I was viewing historical spots. We to had a campground spot a couple different times that was a corner spot right on the lake. We did alot of sight seeing and BBQ'ing.

Next time your in our neck of the woods give us a shout.

Just a update, the latest flash took away one of the tools we used for repair, the mobile de-soot, now we have to have a DTC of P1451 before we are able to do a de-soot procedure.

Mike,

Thanks for the information!

I'm planning on writing my own software to monitor things on the truck. I have an OBD-II reader from ScanTool and I've written this kind of thing before on another truck. I've got a list of the DTCs, but I can't find a list of the PIDs for the items you mentioned. I'd like to be able to see the counters, amount of soot, plus lots of other things so I know more about the truck. I bought the factory service manual, it lists the DTCs but not the PIDs. Where can I find the PIDs?

Ok, You've got my attention. What are PID's?

Mike

PIDs are Parameter IDs. Each one is a number that corresponds to some parameter in the engine, such as engine coolant temp, RPM, fuel usage, vehicle speed, etc. There are a number of standard PIDs, defined by OBD-II standard, such as the ones I just listed. Since these are known, they are easy to access (although the mfg isn't required to support all of the standard PIDs). The manufacturer can then define their own PIDs for anything else of interest, such as the exhaust gas temps before/after the catalyst, the amount of soot in the DPF, the counter of when to do the regen, etc. They also define the units (grams, milligrams, micro-fortnights, etc. ). In order to make sense of all this, I need to know the PIDs, the units they use, etc. Somehow the guys that make the commercial monitors have obtained the information, I just don't know where to get it. I'm not interested in creating a commercial product, just some software to run on my laptop to monitor the engine. I might share it with a few friends or give it away on the internet, but really it's just a hobby project and I don't have the resources to make a commercial product out of it. Besides, good (but expensive) products already exist.

Mike,

Great info! Thanks.

You mentioned the "part 2 when stuff goes wrong".

Did you post that yet?

I can't find it using search.

I'm writing a article about the stuff that goes wrong and other things,Its coming I promise. I'm not sure if it will be a web-site post or if it will end up somewhere else.

Mike, In early 09 my C&C was serviced, and at that time I was told there was an update/flash for it so I agreed and it was done. After that, I could always tell when it was in a regen, by the RPM's sticking at any RPM over 2K with the trany in 1st thru 4th gears during a shift. It gives the feeling that the throttle is sticking. It is so bad, that I had a throttle position sensor changed out with no difference, thinking it was that and the tech agreed. It also would stumble or just not respond to the throttle for a split second, before going into regen. As an example, I was cruising at 50 MPH in 5th gear when it started to slow down and as I depressed the throttle, I had no response and I instinctually looked for a area to stop at safely. It did respond and I immediately took it to the dealer where the tech hooked up the computer and we went for a test drive and the throttle did the sticking sensation for him and he confirmed it was in regen. It did have a update/flash done that stopped the stumble.

My question is, have you experienced this with the C&C's or other trucks with the G56 and what is your opinion about this phenomenon?

While I know there is no "normal" how often shoud the emc display regen required? I do mostly city driving (maybe 5 or 6 miles a day) and i get the msg once a month. It takes approx 14 miles@ 60mph on cruise and my egt is at 900-1000 post turbo until the regen is done. I have thought I might try doing a uturn at 7 miles but always chicken out as I need to come to a stop in the intersection when turning around and am afraid the ecm would want to start from scratch, is that correct?

While pulling my 38' fifth wheel with my 2008 6.7 ram, I rapidly lost power which includes steering and brakes. It took about 10 min to go from 60 mph to zero. I received no "check engine" or alert on overhead that I remember. The local diesel only repair shop replaced the DPF for a $2000 charge. The truck had only 61,000 miles. Dodge replaced this filter at 27,000 along with the erg and turbo. Should I replace the DPF every 35,000 or so miles to be safe?

$2K dollars every 35K miles is too expensive, and you must have other issues causing premature failure of a DPF. Give more info, like fuel additives or programers.
