Hello, just ordered new rear shocks for my truck... it's been about 20 yrs. since I've changed shocks, but unless I remember wrong, the rears are pretty simple... couple of hour job max. ?

Thanks!

Just make sure you have a real long 1/2" drive extension for your rachet for the passenger side. Work it from outside the frame in the wheel well

Thanks for the info... have one, all set, got the bottom bolt off, went for the top... and... my Pullrite hitch brackets definately block getting to it... ugh, gotta take them off to get it done, so I'm blowing it off for a week or so.

On my '03 dually I had to hold the nut when removing the bolt. The tab on the nut holds the nut from turning when it is tightened, but not when it is loosened.

Another TDR member and I replaced the shocks on his '03 truck recently. The top bolt on rear shock on the passneger side was so tight that I had to bend the tab on the nut in order to get a socket on it and use my 1/2" drive air impact wrench on the nut. The driver side was easy. A 3/8" drive air impact wrench loosened the bolt from the outside while holding the nut with an end wrench.

I can get a socket on the outside without removing my Pullrite brackets... so if I bend that weird tab out of the way, can I impact it from tab side (inside)?

Thanks in advance!

I broke that stupid tab off and then took the nut to the grinder to remove the extra material that keeps a socket from sliding on. After that the install was easy.

I put the 5100's on mine. The rears were fairly simple as was the passenger front. The driver's side front took me about 1. 5 hours. What a pain in the groin.

mconstable:

I bought new shocks and I did the fronts yesterday thinking they are the hardest part... . Then thinking I was almost done with the rears (removed the bottom bolt/nut, I saw that my Pullrite brackets were in the way for the top.

What was your final solution to getting the top bolts/nut off? BTW, those flag nuts are worthless. I may just go buy new normal nuts for the top...

Thanks,

Louis

Raise Truck ?

Do you really have to raise the rear of the truck and then place a floor jack under the axle or can you JUST brace the axle?

I don't want to raise the truck if I don't need to, and I don't see why. Any feedback on raising / not raising the truck?

Thanks all !!!

Wow super quick response thanks steved !!!

I just got off the phone with Geno's and they said the same thing...
