I stayed at the Minneapolis Southwest KOA this past weekend and I was disappointed. I generally will pick a KOA due to I usually know what I am getting into and quality of the sites and facilities. The two things that jump out were the quiet hours were largely ignored making this KOA more of a Frat House than a KOA and they were allowing kids, I mean young kids, to drive their four wheelers through the campground streets. Also, the sites are so close together, my slide was about 3 feet from the next door neighbors fire pit. That made me very nervous. Add to that the neighbors kids bounced a ball off the side of my truck twice before I couldn't stand it anymore and went to talk to the parents. I probably sound petty but this KOA is lacking.

I avoid KOAs because to me they are overpriced for what they offer

The truth is I avoid all RV parks as much as possible because of situations like you described. If families are present the children are loud, unruly, and usually unsupervised and untrained. Their parents allow them to walk through the campsites of other campers, often within a foot or two of trailers and actually look in the windows as they walk through. Sometimes the rude and ignorant parents do the same.

It's just another sign of the decline of the American culture.

I hear you Harvey. I taught my kids that the streets through the campgrounds were there for a reason. Use them. There isn't much I hate worse than someone parading through my campsite. No consideration for others. I saw where you are travelling through WY this July. If for some off chance you find yourself in your travels going through Bismarck, ND, I'll expect a phone call for a cup of coffee.

Dave,

I don't think we will make it over there because of the time limits imposed by my wife's vacation plans but thank you and I'll keep your invite in mind.

I'm glad to hear that other people get POed while in a campground and other people or kids walk, ride their bikes, ect. through your space. I thought I was just turning into an old fart.

Last year we had some kids cutting between my truck and TT to get to the edge of a lake. Why cant they just walk around my campsite? I have also had people walk their dogs through. One time while eating dinner inside the TT, I look out the window and here is some little kid standing there looking at me.

I've thought about setting up trip wires but I know where that will get me. I don't look good in orange:-laf

This is a bit off topic but, in Oct. 1976, I was moving from Detroit to Phoenix. I had purchased a new Ford E-150 van with an enclosed utility trailer. Had my business equipment & personal belongings in the van & trailer & the weight was so heavy that I could not go over 45 mph. or the tires heated up too much. I was worried about someone stealing the van & trailer so, I slept in it & drove the rest of the time.

By the time I got to Arkansas, I was getting a little "ripe" & needed a shower, badly. I found a KOA & tried to strike a deal with the owner for just a hot shower & shave. He said that I needed to rent an RV space for the night or, "No Deal!!!" That shower cost me $8. 00, which, was a lot in '76.

After my shower & shave, I noticed a truck stop across the street from the KOA & went there for lunch. While eating, I noticed a sign, "FREE SHOWERS"!!! Almost choked on my lunch.

Out of spite, I have never gone back to a KOA.

Hit truck stops for showers & fuel for the rest of the trip.

Anytime. That goes for any of you travelling across the Great White North of North Dakota. I may not be able to sit with you for hours on end but if you are in the mood for coffee and break and in the Bismarck area, give me a call, I'll make time for you. I am in the TDR "Call For Help" guide.
