I am looking to put a tuner on my truck what is the difference between the 2? I do not have gauges right now so the edge would take care of that. Doing this because my 44 is going out and installing and airdog fuel system with the new VP and putting new injectors in also. Truck is stock other than exhaust. Thanks for the help Mark.

I would go with the Edge Juice. Reason being the guages for one, secondly the edge is a safe chip. What I mean by that is you can set it to defuel at a certain egt to keep from a meltdown. You can set max boost to protect your head. You can set a fuel psi alarm if it happens to drop to low. There are alot of things you can do with the edge to protect your truck that you cant with the smarty.

One other thing where to go for the best prices on these parts? my plan is to put on the VP and airdog fuel system the edge or smarty and mach 1 1. 6 injectors

not starting a who better product war. I have been really happy for the last 3 years with my smarty and TSTPMX 3. I have gauges mechanical. I like the smarty for the bottem end TQ and the tuning with the Revo. and clearing and reading of codes. and to adjust my speedo. I have never had a edge. and yes they have some good safety measures you can apply. but also the TST to me is safe for it is fuel only working with your boost. not saying which one makes more power mine is a HO and I have a limit to some extent due to the VP. injectors I have been really happy with my mach 4's clean and great power and also helped with EGT's compared to the nozzles I had on before the 4's where put on. but again for my HO injectors and the smarty really made the truck wake up. not saying anything bad about any of these products but watch out buddy the diesel bug is biting you. I know you want to buy something one time and be happy and done with it. good luck.

You'll most likely quickly need an upgraded transmission. A diesel shop I go to had a similar truck in, and the transmission was dead. The guy said he only had the Edge for a couple weeks. He said it was quite aggresive on hi setting. You should check. The Smarty might do the same with injectors. You'll need a stronger transmission anyway in my opinion.

I haven't had a problem with my Smarty and I love it. Along with all my other mods it really woke things up on the bottom end. Not sure what the Edge offers power wise, but if it conects up to the VP then it will out power the Smarty due to more fueling capability. I'm happy with what I have right now, but as said above the transmission will go south quickly. Invest more now in the weak-kneed 47re and you'll be happier for it. I know, I had to.

I agree not bashing the smarty at all. Just giving input on my chip being that is what I have and it is safer being it provides gauges and limit set points. I say if he goes with a smarty is to definately invest in gauges.

I went with the edge mainly because I need gauges and I can kill 2 birds with 1 tuner this way. Also my son's and I drove to US deiselparts dyno days Saturday and they had everything on sale so was able to get the edge, intake, fass and injectors all for really good prices with no tax or shipping. Was the first time going to one of these events was a lot of fun 40+ trucks and hundreds of people. Thanks for the input now I just need to get water/oil gauges working

Edge Juice is much better bang for the buck especially on the older vp44 trucks that don't have as much torque management.

No doubt the edge will give you more HP, more adjust ability and gauges. Smarty for the 2nd gen should be about $450... its $200 too high, you can get the EZ or XZT+ that will do a similar job for under $400
