When I bought my 06 3 years ago, I also bought new hoses and a serpentine belt. Now with 76K miles on it, I am thinking of replacing my old belt & hoses with the 3 year old new ones. Is there a lifespan on unused hoses/belts?

I bought a new 1990 W250 CTD and the original hoses are still in use and look good. I have replaced the belt but never the hoses.

I have had 4 first gens and never replaced a hose.

Theoretically, yes there is a finite life span for unused new belts and hoses. The rubber in them can dry rot over time.

However, I doubt the lifespan is less than 3 years. In fact, I doubt it's much less than 10 years.

If it were me, I'd carefully inspect the stuff looking for tiny cracks or hard spots. Lacking them, I'd go ahead and use it.

In the Coast Guard we go 10 year for unused hoses, 5 years for weather service hoses and 8 years for nonweather service hoses. The 10 years includes service life, but all this is over kill. I've seen hoses last 13 years before failing. I also have yet to change a belt or a hose on my 03.

My 99 still has the original hoses. My friends 01 HO has 160K with all original hoses. Both trucks have only had the serp belt replaced.

On my 05 I just replaced the serp belt and coolant, and only because of the 5 year/100K lifespan at 88K. Replacing hoses, belts and the like any sooner is pretty much un necessary and only increases operating costs.
