New SB clutch

Ok I worked all weekend on this thing, changed a u-joint, front pinion seal,

had to find new bolts to reconnect the front shaft, new output seal on transfer case , a new clutch from SB flywheel, pressure plate and clutch plate

Followed the instructions to the letter. Now itr has this awful knocking sound when i am in neutral and let the clutch out, and I cannot get the thing in revers, I have to shut it down and put in revers when the engine is not running. I hope someone can help me , I am exhausted and I think I will have to pull this transmission again.

Did you replace the clutch master and slave with the SB unit? The stock clutch master and slave don't work well with a SB clutch. Call SB...

yes , I replaced the master and slave unit , I did talk to SB , the guy told me to let it seat itself in, the noise would get better very shortly and the revers gear would be easier to work, he suggested to drain two quarts of the syncro oil out of the trans and replace with Hyper Lube to thicken the oil to help with the revers gear and to make the trans smoother shifting. Most of you out there probably know these things but this was my first clutch I have ever done. Anyway I drove it today and it has gotten much better and the hyper lube worked great. I hope this help someone when they decide to tackle a clutch .

TRedwine, please tell us which SBC clutch you decided to install... I will be tackling my clutch with an SBC sometime in the next 6 months. Also, what mods, if any, do you have on your truck that led you to choose the clutch you did. TIA

SierraRam, when did you have your DD installed? I hear that the newest ones have "noise reduction tabs" on them and are virtually quiet. I am trying to find out more info on them. How loud is yours over the engine and does it happen only in neutral, or even while engaging and driving? Which DD did you choose?

You should also have an adjustment rod behind the clutch pedal. You may need to mess with it a bit as i did to get it to go into gear smoothly.

How many miles did you get out of the factory clutch? I've got an 05 with 116,000 on the factory unit still works good no signs of slipping. I wish there was a way to see how much is left.....

About 40K miles ago. Yes the noise is in neutral, if you hold a little pressure against the stick it goes away. I have always been told that it is due to the engine harmonics teansfering through the clutch. I even put on an Fluid damper with no noticible difference.

I am surprised that the Fluidampr did not help with the noise... I have read that alot of people, including Peter at SBC, say that it makes a big difference.

They all do it. Nothing you can do abouy the noise. Maybe not the new ones i'm not sure.

I appreciate the input, guys. I am due for a new clutch soon. Eventually will be running close to 450hp, and can't decide between the OFE and the 3250 DD.
I want to have my cake and eat it too in terms of quiet drivability and holding power. Will be talking with Peter at SBC soon to find out about the new "quieter" DD.
