I'm looking at getting my 97's auto transmission rebuilt by local folks who have a good reputation. But before I plunk down $3300, I'm wondering what folks have paid for a similar transmission.

The shop has a core transmission they will rebuild, and then pull my old one out and install the rebuilt one. It should handle 300hp:

1. Billet Converter $850

2. Goerend Lever Strap $85

3. Shift kit $139

4. Flex Plate $295

5. Transmission R&R $750

6. Rebuild Internals on Transmission replace with high performance bands and clutches if applicable. 1,000

7. fuid $79

Total with tax $3333

I'm wondering if I should just have them use my transmission and rebuild it as opposed to using a core.

As usual, more head scratching.

I did a DTT rebuild to with stand 450 HP. It cost me $5200. 00 plus my core. That was T. Q. flex plate ,billet shaft and all that super big internal parts, about a year ago.

I live in Northern California. And I see prices for transmissions running from $900 to over $5k. As usual, devil is in the details, and NO One seems to give all the details. Lot's of "Repair and Refurbish as needed" for a fixed price.

That makes me leery as all get out. If I'm paying a flat fee for rebuilding a transmission, then isn't it reasonable that all parts that wear get refurbished?

There's all that Trust that's involved. You trust that you'll get the best work and best parts, and then in the end, because you actually haven't seen the transmission getting rebuilt, you have no idea what parts have truly gone in. I suppose a shop with a good reputation will not chance skimping, but who really, truly knows.

I reckon that points out, that if you want the best job, then learn how to do it yourself and do it. My problem is time.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, and sometimes you don't even get that.

I don't know where you live, but here My trans guy was a lot less with Billet shafts
