So, the leak that is between the ps pump and vacuum pump is getting bigger. Guess it is time to look into it. so i stop marking my territory! :-laf

I see that Genoes offers a kit for the 91+ trucks but it does not say anything about the 89/90 trucks.

Will it still work?

Is there another kit I can get for it? Something locally maybe?

Thanks!

Robert

I have the 89/90 year truck and had a manual made to rebuild the vacuum pump/drive assy. If you need any tips or part numbers, I have that.

Are you leaking engine oil? There are a couple of O rings in there that can leak. However, you must understand,, that the LARGE ball bearing just inside the eccentric drive is lubed only via oil splashed onto it by way of the timing gear set. When this bearing goes, it will scatter it's parts into the timing gears. Need I say mnore?

It would be best to save up the money to rebuild the ENTIRE unit, as you must remove it to reseal it anyway, unless you feel lucky.

No, there is no such kit for these trucks. I believe that there are some second gen trucks which use this same pump, but they have hydro boost, so I can't say why there is a kit which fits them. You can bet that kit wasn't designed and marketed for "Our" trucks!

If it is power steering fluid leaking, it is the power steering pump. The vacuum pump only seals engine oil. The kit you posted is for the rotary type pump. You have the diaphragm type. I have rebuilt several, years ago but don't remember how or where I got a kit. They are simular to the older Ford type.

Thanks guys! Will do some digging and see what fluid I actually find. Was not aware that here were two possible sources. Was thinking just PS fluid.

Don't know much about Dodge Cummins, but this one I do know. Mine is a 1990 and we just changed over to the newer Vaccum Pump/Power Steering pump unit. The old ones don't separate without some special equipment, you can get loose and jiggle it but it aint going to separate) the later model you can just plug and play the power steering pump without removing the vaccum pump, came in handy cause we had to change the power steering pump 3 times. BIG Tires!!!! 1991. 5 -1993 roughly I believe. That's probably why Geno's doesn't sell a kit for the older ones. Then I got a PSC steering gear box and a Borgeson shaft. Go Kart like steering. ;)

Thanks! That is awesome! Think I have tracked it over the last week to be motor oil from between the vacuum pump and gear case.
