shaun you do not have a he341 on the 92. the 341 is from a 03 to 04. 4 a good used 341 can be found for about $200 on ebay or these forums. if you have a 341 consider going back with a he351 for between $300 and $500 just make sure it is not a 351v for a 6. 7. if you go with a 351 pm me and i will tell you how to handle the wastegate solenoid

I got the 341. As a take off. Cheap. I would like to replace the bearings it has a little play In the shaft axially and I would like to replace the seals
Thanks Shaun

i will see if i can get you the address monday. it is a lot harder to put the 341 or 351 on a 1st or second gen than you think i have my own shop. equipped very well i put a he351 on a 12 valve 98 it took about eight hours to fabricate the exhaust down pipe about four hours on the intercooler pipe and another four hours on the intake. i like the results. but you need to be a really good welder. i got the two 90* 3" exhaust pieces from car quest if you still want to do it pm me with your email and i will send pix and i will look up the part #

CKelly1,

Your opinion on turbo's would be greatly appreciated. I have an '03, HO, 3500 SRW, NV-5600, 3:73 & stock sized tires. The truck is used mostly for towing a 6-7000 lb. travel trailer in the mountainous Western US. I have the Smarty Jr. & tow on the Towing Mode (70 hp). I have an AFE ProGuard-7 fresh air intake system &, GDP-Walbro-351 fuel pump, guages, Magnaflow muffler &, that's about it for performance products.

My understanding is that the stock turbo is one of the limiting factors with my truck, now. I've been thinking about the upgrade of the used turbo off an '04. 5 on up truck but, have been told that I'd be better off just buying a new turbo. I don't race my truck & don't drive it hard. Just towing in the mountains.

Do you have any thoughts about what turbo or turbo's I should be looking at & their prices?

Thanks.

Joe F.

If you don't mind spending the money, I put a BD Super B on my '03 along with their manifold, and it is excellent. About 1-1-1/2 MPG better, lower boost at cruising, and a little more zip. The only thing you'll have to do is shorten the engine pipe about 2".

An HE351 is a good upgrade for what you want to do, if you can pick one up for $300-$350 its better than a new aftermarket turbo. Even an HE351VE is good match if you want to go thru the extra work of mounting it.

the he351 is a very good upgrade for your 03. the way you have your truck set up if you go larger you will loose some low end torque when towing. if you do not already have an exhaust brake consider a bd. it will have the elbow with it. you can get a stock one for about $90 you may be able to get a take off from some one that installed a pac, bd, or jake. you will need to get two clamps. i lost the car quest cross reference but the mopar is 05159965AA for the turbo to elbow. and 52121285AA for the turbo to down pipe. the turbo to elbow clamp is expensive through mopar. for the solenoid i modify it to make it fixed. it only takes 20 minutes to do but you can also connect it to a 12 volt dc ignition hot lead if you want. if you decide to modify pm me with your email address and i will send step by step pix

I followed CKelley's advice on the 351 and are quite happy. It spools a tad slower but having an extra 10lbs of boost adds a fair bit of power. The extra air it moves is quite noticeable. I did the 4" elbow and added 4" exhaust and ATS manifold at the same time.
