Anyone know what improved compatibility means for the July 22 2010

Update means. Is this another dodge update or a smarty update?

Dennis

Chrysler came out with a new flash couple months back. Something for 06/07 trucks, and there was a recall on it I believe. I'm sure this is to include that software update.

It's my understanding that the update enables us to reload Smarty after the KO1 reflash in the event you must bring it into the dealer. I don't get the lack of explanation either.

Puzzling file update question

OK, Please help me out here.

I just went to the Smarty S06 POD downloads and tried to download the file for the standard Revo software, (not the TNT). When I try to save it I get the message the file already exist in my Smarty download folder. My existing saved file has the same name but a different date than what's on the MADS site. I downloaded my existing file earlier than the July 22, 2010 file date that's on the MADS site.

Is this a different file with the same name but different developement date or is it the same file??? Usually the MADS folks change the filename and the developement date as well.

Bob Wagner, could you comment on this one???

Delete your 'old' file, or save the new one in a different folder

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing.

:)

But there is an interesting twist to this story. I had just loaded the previous file software to my truck. I loaded the Standard Revo level 9 and had set the POD level back to 50% just so I wouldn't have any smoke, figuring I could always bump the power level back to max if I needed the power.

The truck wouldn't get out of it's own way and seemed to delay all the shifts. I of course reloaded the stock tune thinking I did something wrong and all was fine.

I think the earlier file had a July 18, 2010 date and the one I replaced it with was dated July 22, 2010 but both had the same file name. I was sure of that.

Hmmm thats interesting. Did U try upping the POD level to say 70 just to try it?

I am sorry I don't no anything about the POD I have the regular S-06.

I was just looking in my Smarty folder, I think I have the last two updates, but they would be different between the smartys I'll bet.

No, I just figured I had done something wrong so I did another download and then another reinstall on the truck. I now have the truck closer to stock and loaded the Standard S06-POD standard Revo (not TNT) software on level 5 with the timing and 90 HP and it runs great. No smoke but still very good power and I will be checking the fuel economy over the next few weeks.

FYI - I looked and the Smarty S06 and S05-POD softwares have diffferent files so they must be different.

Bob, I hope you didn't break your hand typing all of that response :-laf

I still would like to know from You Bob what is different about the new firmware.

Realize that Dodge Bros read these forums also, if everything was published about the software, it would make it easier to detect at your friendly dealership.

I'm of course NOT asking for technical details!!

I would just like to know if for example: This new update corrects smoke,

or this one should help top end horse power, or better shift points, or if this was to add a new Chrysler update. (in this case I would not need to update)

This would in no way help Dodge detect the Smarty!

This info being released would not result in people being killed.

I mean good grief It is our truck we are loading this update onto. Does it raise rail pressure above stock levels? That is my main concern.

Enough said

Dennis

I am my only warranty station. I have had the jr. since it came out. the original load had good throttle response and also seemed to cool down fast. I was impressed. subsequent loads while not hurting mileage have made my engine run a bit rough and took longer to get to 300 degrees plus it had lost instant response. I am a happy camper now, the 7-22 load has brought everything back to what I bought it for in the first place plus. Every truck may respond differently.

Bob could suggest to call, or?

For Bob: Very Bad PR!

There *are* potential customers here who are *not* impressed with your flippant "Smarty-a**" answer - no matter what the reason!

Whoa, wait a minute. If you know Bob then you know he would not give a smart alec or flippant response. Bob is all business, very brief, and "just the facts". His answer was completely understood by me without even thinking about it.

The question was "FYI - I looked and the Smarty S06 and S05-POD softwares have diffferent files so they must be different. "

One has the POD (Power On Demand) and the other doesn't. Because the POD has capabilities that the non-POD doesn't two different software files are required. If you read Bob's website you find that the non-POD Smarty's can be sent in and upgraded to POD because the POD requires different hardware to be capable of running the POD software. Reading and discovery in order to understand brings knowledge. Bob cannot answer every question that every person has, that is why the info was put on the website. Could the website info be improved? Sure, everything in life can be. It would be helpful to have a short description of why a file has been updated, no question about it. But to publicly berate Bob because you think his answer was flippant and smart alec is uncalled for.

Godspeed,
Trent

I definitely agree. I have spoken to Bob on several occasions and he seems to go out of his way to help us. A while back I had my early SO4 Smarty upgraded to the S06-POD and couldn't be happier.

Now running my stock turbo, the Standard Revo level 5 software, (90hp plus timing). Very little smoke and great power for my needs. The truck is very driveable. My slower spooling SPS66 turbo, automatic transmission and upper power level Smarty programs just seemed to make a bit too much smoke in and around the Atlanta traffic. I rarely got a chance to get the SPS66 in it's sweet range.

Oo.

If you go to the news link on Mads website, they give a brief description of the software updates. Just an FYI for those who didnt know.

Take care,
