Shut down at 300 or 350 deg?

A search didn’t make me satisfied on an answer so I will ask.

What temperature do you guys shut the engine down at?

I used to wait till 300 but read 350 was OK so I started doing that. But now I am a little worried about it and was wondering what ya’ll do?

On my Mule (last year I put an egt and boost guage on it) I let it idle down to 320 that is about low as it will go unless it is cold out side. Before the egt gauge if I was driving it in the city I would shut down the engine right away if I had the Mule on the highway I would let it idle 5 minutes at rest areas or fuel stops( I had over 200,000 miles on it when I installed guages still have original turbo).

On the Freightliner I shut it down right away if I been driving at least 5 minutes off highway but let it run at rest areas(original turbo 178,000).

On the Mule at rest areas that it takes abouty 5 minutes to get the tempature down to 320.

i usually kill it at anything under 400. Use to wait till 350 or so but now i'm usually too impatient. I figure the extra fuel cost of idling 5 minutes every time would probably cost more than a new turbo over time

400 for me, and I use synthetic oil. For all the stop and go driving I do, I don't have the time/patience to wait an extra 2 minutes to drop from 400 to 300.

Get a turbo timer. Mine will idle for two mins and shut off. normally cools to 290-320 depends on temperature outside.

My Edge Juice w/Attitude has a turbo cool down feature by time or temperature. The factory default is 400F. By the time I idle around a parking lot or down my driveway the temp is below 400 anyway.

I do have a turbo timer built into my alarm, but when it’s close I just sit and wait because I hate leaving my truck running while unattended.

Also, I come home from work late because I work late and I live in the suburbs and I have a big exhaust, so the quicker I can shut it down the better.

Since I was doing 300 and switched to 350 I guess either is fine, or maybe even a few degrees hotter now that I have heard all this.
