Looking to get some new tires for my 2009 Ram 2500. I’ve gotten 41,000 miles out of the original stock tires and looking to get the same, if not better, out of the tires I purchase. Any recommendations? I’m looking for an aggressive all-terrain tire, but don’t want the BFGs that everyone has on their trucks these days. Any idea on the largest tire size I can fit under my front fenders without rubbing?

Also, I was thinking about buying a leveling lift kit for the front suspension to accommodate a larger tire size. Any suggestions on which kit to purchase? I’ve been thinking about a Maxx Suspension Level Kit, but have been unable to find one for a 2009.

Thank you for your input.

I have had good luck with both Michelin and Bridgestone Revo's. Both have worn well and been excellent on wet roads. See the "Tire Rack" for a comparison of off road tires for a side by side comparison based on customer's experiences.

No offense, i would not use that max kit. stay away from spacers. I have the carli suspension, thuren fabrication also makes kits for our trucks. the carli kit brings the front up about 3 in and rear 1 in. levels truck out nice and improves ride quality. i just ordered the nitto terra grapler 285/75 17 e rated (it is a narrow 34in tall tire). these are a/t tires that should work well.

make sure you use an e rated tire. the 3 in lifts are nice, because the truck still handles ok, and it makes the truck sit level. don't go with spacer blocks. change out the front coils, the truck will handle much better. you will also need a track bar once you go up 3 in in front.

I appreciate the advice. That's the kind of feedback I was looking for on the Maxx stacks.

What do you think the Carli suspension will run me as far as expense? Hows the install? Fairly easy? If you have any part numbers, I would greatly appreciate it.

I had put 285/70/17 Treadwright retreads, D rated, on my 3500 and was very pleased with them, unloaded. Once I put the camper on, even though the larger tire was rated for the same weight as the 265's, the handling was unsafe. Just put on 265/70/17 Goodyear Silent Armour tires on (glad I had the road hazard coverage from Sam's club, put a hole in a sidewall less than 2 weeks after buying. Was off road and had aired down to 50psi, hit a rock). Seems to be about a 2mpg improvement with stock size. Will get more data as we go along.

JCockerill is right. Replace the track bar while you're at it. Wish I would have done that when I was putting my 2" leveling kit in. I don't have the dreaded DW, but my steering is really squashy because the bushings are worn. I'll be ordering a Carli track bar sometime before the weather gets cold. I'm tired of trying to make small steering corrections and nothing happens. BTW, I've been happy with my Goodyear Silent Armors. They've got about 30K on them and they seem to be wearing pretty well. I had absolutely no trouble getting around in those blizzards we had last winter.

I just put the Hankook ATM RF-10 on my wife's truck and they are turning out to be great tires. I believe they come in an E-rated size for our trucks too. They are very grippy (kinda like velcro) and they are wearing well. I bought them after seeing so many good reviews online. So far, so good. Just before putting the RF-10's on the wife's truck, I put the Cooper Zeon back on mine (after getting about 55,000) out of the first set. I really love them. I have them in a 305/55-20 which obviously isn't stock but I thought the megacab needed more wheel to balance the length of the truck. They look awesome.
