I'm getting ready to install one on my truck and have one question. Is it necessary to lift the truck to get to the bolts on the trans? Thanks.
 
It was for me because I could not get my fat butt under the truck!!! If you can get under the truck and it's on the ground; the answer is no, you don't have to raise the truck.
 
Well I have everything done except getting the clip back on the clutch petal shaft. How in the heck does that thing go on? #@$%! There must be an easy way to do it and I'm just not seeing it.
 
johnmoore, Are you using Southbends Hyd-X-1. 50 hydraulic assembly? If so how did the replacement go other than that clip that's fighting you? I'm getting ready to replace mine and was just looking at Southbends HD assembly.

As to that clip!!! I got a spare included with the South Bend replacement clutch hydraulics. I destroyed mine taking it out but once out it was evident how the clip works. I got frustrated and bent it all up removing deciding I would track down another one once it was out. I did not know I had a spare in the box when I first removed it, thanks South Bend. I would like to describe how the thing works, honest though don't think I can in words. You will think the same as me and say will that would have been easy to remove if I had only known. Actually that clip is probably the hardest part of this job. Big hands and not being able to see to not help.

Somebody else here maybe a better descriptive writer than I and can do it.
 
mhenon - - that is the one I am using. Removal and install wasn't too bad. Took a little time and working under the dash is a bit cramped. I don't know why they didn't use a "C" clip instead of that spring steel monster.

I didn't quite destroy mine getting it off, and did see that there was a spare in the kit. Did you get yours on just using your fingers and pushing? I can get my hand up there but can't get enough leverage to push it on. Maybe I'll have better luck today? I knew I should have made my beer run before starting this. :-laf

Come on Bob. . give it a try!! I just took a peak at that clip. Sort of a square looking thingy with a bent down tab at one end and two protrusions on the other. I'm guessing you have to bend the tab down while doing something with the other end. Sort of like those Dorman connectors... push, squeeze the tabs then pull back.

Could you do away with that tab altogether by drilling a hole in the pin and using a cotter pin or is it more complex than that??

You did a better job describing the removal and installation than I could. I was tempted to drill a hole in the rod and us a cotter pin. Maybe if I do it again. :cool:

I did get it on with my bare hands. I see you did get in on finally. As I recall I adjusted mine until felt like approximately what the old one felt like don't remember how many turns. :)

I always do the beer run after as a reward. If before I drink beer and not get the job done. :rolleyes:

That's just what I was thinking after looking it over. Thanks for posting this as I'm getting ready to swap mine out soon. Think you saved us all a little time.

Well that must have been exciting if you had not floated into neutral before it happened.
