Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Cummins motorhome Swap????

I am not sure i am in the correct forum but i thought i would try anyways.

I have a 94 allegro motorhome with a 460 and i mechanic told me i could swap in a 93 cummins 5. 9 to replace it, i was wondering does anybody know anything about some Allegro's that were from the factory with a cummins motor and if so which year motor would i want to try to find????



If this in the wrong place i apologize and would hope someone could point me to the correct forum.

Essentially, its entirely doable using either any Cummins engine you choose. All depends on how much time, money, and work you want expend.

A 12 valve Cummins with the P7100 pump(96-98) would be a better choice than the 12 vavle Cummins with the VE pump (93).

Does anybody smog diesel motorhomes? GVW is pretty high and its not commecrcial. A lot of places don't even address that combo.

Just to correct a typo, the P7100 is 94 to 98, not just 96-98. The later ones had EGR while at least here in CA, the 94-95's did not.



As for smog, you may want to research what is required for engine swaps here in CA because it seems that the rest of the country follows along with what CA does in terms of Smog laws. In my opinion that would mean that you would at least need a 94 or new motor with all of its associated smog equipment. not the 93. Fortunately for the 94, they didn't even have a CAT or EGR.

A 93' F-53 RV chassis does not have the front axle rating required for our Cummins diesels. You would be adding close to 700lbs to the front-end when you consider the Allison transmission to back it. The 518 nor the 46 and 47RE's are even capable of sustaining the GCWR's of that chassis' ratings. To my knowledge, the only chassis manufacturer that even used the front-engine Cummins was Freightliner and it was a bus chassis. Newmar used it for a couple of years in the mid to late 90's but was dismissed due to the interior noise. Plus, the dogbox was so high that it was very inconvienent to access the drivers seat from inside the coach.

I should of added that the 96 to 98 5 spd's offer the 215 hp p7100 pump.



But for a motor home you should look at Freightliners with the Cummins 5. 9 (P7100 pump) in them. ( IN 98/99 Freightliners Business Class the Cummins 5. 9 was the base engine. I'm pretty sure they were the base engine before that. 99's had the vp44 24 vavle engine in them don'ty know about the 98s. )
