If you were going to get a rebuilt 48RE from one of the best high-end transmission builders, to tow a 12K fifth wheel cross country every summer, which builder would you use?

For that matter who are the top 4 aftermarket trans builders in the USA?

Just planning ahead where to spend my $6K :{ at 145K

My truck is bone stock and for reliability I intend to keep it that way. Just want a transmission that will laugh at towing 12K... :-laf

That is good to know.

Anybody good in the Dallas, Texas area?

D.

Absolutely. I had a fellow by the name of James Northrum in Midlothian rebuild my '06 48RE. James Transmission Technology - (972) 467-3702 - Home

James is a longtime automatic transmission builder and has been an authorized DTT rebuilder for ten years or more. I found him skilled, honest, and fair. He will stand behind his work without excuses or lies.

I can recommend him with confidence that he won't embarrass me after I go out on a limb recommending him to a fellow TDR member.

Call him and talk to him and tell him you are a TDR member. He used to be a TDR member but never posts.

I have an ATS stage II transmission for 2 years now and regularly pull my 19K Toy hauler and have had not one problem.

Browns diesel service should be close to you and sales Goerend transmissions that is who I bought mine through and have put 60,000 miles on it. With no ploblems and Dave Goerend is good to talk to and if you have any questions he is good about calling you back when you leave a message.

Thank for the info - that is very close to me.

Thanks,

Thanks for the lead but. . Browns Diesel Service in Riverdale, CA is a 5 hour drive from here.

Wish it was Riverside, CA. Still looking for a local dealer for Gorend or DTT at this point.

I have had great support from DTT. The last time I had mine worked on I used Lancaster Transmission in Lancaster Calif. Talk to Dennis the owner. He's not a DTT rep but they run a good shop. DTT's reputation is well documented on TDR.

Good Luck

Mike

We had a rebuilt Goerend Transmission installed this past May. We, too, do a lot of heavy towing and I wanted something "bullet-proof" to avoid a breakdown in the boonies and having to settle for installing a lesser transmission in an emergency. I figured I probably could have gotten a few more thousand miles out of the stock transmission, but why push it?

It was installed by Mac's Performance in Fort Worth... I really thought these guys were good, fair priced, and took the time to talk with (and educate) me. I would definitely go back to Mac's when I'm back in the area. Mac's is very close to a Corps of Engineers campground on Benbrook Lake, which made it convenient, too. I had a Auto Meter trans temp gauge with the replacement pillar installed at the same time, which I'm real happy with and looks sweet.

As for the transmission, I love it... so far so good, though only 5K on the new one so far. Goerend is a very professional outfit - I would give serious thought to going with them.

Turns out that DTT does not have any authorized installers/shops.

I was hoping to be able to have a local transmission shop who is familiar with their products do my rebuild.

As I will be passing within 100 miles of Gorend in Iowa on my trip, I may just see if they will do the job for me in their shop.

Thanks for all the input guys.

You won't be sorry going with Dave Goerend. He stands by his equipment come what may.
