80% full regen required?

I emailed them twice since June. I got a response each time. They are working on it and say they are within a couple months away. I inquired about the Samrty JR for the 2010

Is there any smarty Jr advantage to a truck with the emissions intact, ie. lower smoke better fuel mileage. I had the Jr in my o4. 5 where it seemed to have less smoke on the lower power levels. Then it would seem to be an advantage (to me) for a emissions intact truck. I've also read things about the 6. 7l having head gasket issues due to smarty on the 60hp settings. I'm patiently waiting for the 2010 edition... . But sometimes the more you read the more confused you get. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

I have read the if you put on any tuner smarty or what that that the 2010 would go into regen more often and that the fuel mileage increase would be only 2-3 mpg increase that's with keeping the stock exhaust? I also here there's trouble with the head gasket on the smarty at low settings?

From my experience, you are 100% correct. Any fuel you add while keeping the DPF present is going to add more particulates (soot / smoke) and cause the DPF to "fill up faster" causing the truck to be in a regen status VERY often. I've observed this offsets most mpg gains by the tuner.

I have the mini maxx and drove my truck for 3 weeks with the DPF present on all the tunes and it just seemed that I gained a little in MPG (1 or 2 most), a lot in performance and responsiveness and it seemed I was in regen most of the time.

Just my observations.

Darn! I was hoping that somehow it would reduce the amount of soot and help out with the emissions intact. Oh well stock until the warranty expires.

Nope. For me:

More power.

More responsiveness.

Slightly better MPG but not much.

More regens.

I'm not saying it's not worth it -- it does cause more regens is all.

what kind of mileage increases / power increases could be had by ditching the dpf and related hardware?

Significant. Main reason is you'd be stopping the regens either with sims (foolers) or a tuner. Stopping the regens stops fuel from being dumped during the exhaust stroke into the exhaust system to heat up the emissions equipment. This is a significant savings in fuel alone -- 2-3 mpg for some people. THen on top of that, the specific tuner can be more efficient because it doesn't have to run with such retarded timing for emissions purposes.

There are no guarantees but I've read on other boards of people who were getting 12-14 mpg getting 16-18 mpg.

I'm not advocating anything -- I'm just providing information. :)

I was hoping for a magic bullet that would help with the emissions equipment. NJ is tough with inspections. But we just did away with the safety portion of the inspection. The only part of the inspection they do with our trucks now is check underneath with a mirror. Then a good sticker. I'll wait for the warranty expires in 7 years... . :-laf

Anybody have an update when Smarty will have something out for the 4th Gen trucks?

My truck got the 80% full message while hunting this weekend in the mountains. They better hurry, I am losing patience and might have to order the bm.
