About six week ago I posted a request to find out what tailgates would fit my truck. Some a__ hole decided he liked mine more tha I did. Thinking I would find a used one and have it painted to match. Finding used ones to be around $250. 00 and upward and then needed to be painted, started to become expensive. I started searching on-line and found a Co. Pershing Auto Body parts at Pershing Auto Body Parts :painted to Match Parts Hood Fender Bumper Grille Headlight Tail Light Tailgate Raditor Support 1-866-807-0003 That sells tailgates and other body parts. They sell gates painted or primered. :)I purchased one painted to match my truck for $260. 00 delivered to Denver. It took about four weeks to receive. All I needed to do was remove all the hardware from an old trashed gate I found for zero dollars and install on the new gate. It was manufactured out of the USA and sent directly to me. Weight of gate and quality of material appears to be equal to the OEM. Paint is a perfect match. A body shop quoted me $1,500 to replace mine and a month to receive the parts. I am wondering if they were going to do the same as I did by ordering an import part.

The OEM tailgate is far superior to the aftermarket. Once you jump on it or have something slide back an hit it,You will get pressure dents on both sides. When this happens you will no longer be able to shut it W/O hitting the Box ends. Other then the strength it will look and act just as good as OEM,So just be-careful and it will work just fine with some extra $$$ in your wallet.

I had a gooseneck coupler break last weekend. Luckily I was going slowly and it "only" dragged the tailgate back about 8 inches. Other than following the lead of the gentleman who assisted Souders, I haven't found a good deal on an OEM unit. Some of the EBAY vendors claim the dually is a different tailgate from the SRW, others don't. I test fit a tailgate off a friend's 2003 1500 and it appeared to be about 3/16" too wide. I'm not sure if my bed rails closed in from the impact, or if the SRW is in fact wider.

Has anyone had any luck with other junkyard or used tailgates?

Does anyone have one for sale, preferably in patriot blue?

TIA,

Drew

I have practically a brand new V-Slotted black plastic tailgate, still in the box it came with. I had it on my truck for about 3 months. It has the lift latch, swivels on the factory mounts. I will not turndown any reasonable offer, should not be too expensive to ship.

I thought about going that route, but I use the bed to haul firewood, mulch, rocks, etc as well as towing so I don't think it will serve my needs. Thanks anyway!

On the 2nd gen the dually tailgate has lights

Will a 2nd gen tailgate fit a 3rd gen bed, other than the lights?

The vendors on e-bay sell them for less than my insurance deductable. The one I ordered took about six weeks to receive. delivered to my house painted for $260. 00 total.

Lot of used oem available if you have time to look around and wait. Painting will cost about the total cost of one from e-bay.

Check craigslist.com or nation wide craigslook.com.
