it really wakes up the 2nd gens. has alot of adjustability for tuning. great with stacking another fuel box. helps alot with economy. it is limited on the HP that it actually produces. but the TQ curve is now like 200rpms sooner with the smarty.

Best thing I performance mod I have done to my truck. :D

I was impressed when I first got it (2002) and still am.

Pretty amazing programmer, BUT, I didn't like that I couldn't adjust it on the fly, way to much smoke on higher levels and very touchy go pedal.

I sold mine and went back to a Drag Comp, a much better choice for me.

The Smarty has been the single best performance investment I made in my '99. I had Edge EZ, then Edge Comp, then bought Smarty. Smarty was far better in response, timing curve, smoothness, fuel economy, and everything else except cruise control. With Edge Comp and EZ, engine would miss all the time under load when pulling, regardless of settings. Edge replaced it under warranty 3 times for various reasons. I still have it in my truck, just never use it. I did like the Edge Comp for its on-the-fly change in power level, but really for what I do it isn't necessary, actually keeps me out of trouble at the stop light:-laf !

The drawback for the smarty is cruise control definitely is out due to rapid accelerator response, the cruise will have the truck almost bucking and you sea-sick.

Fuel mileage increase with smarty was very nice, getting up to 21mpg on long highway trips (calculated with fill-ups) when empty. I also like the ability to change the settings independently for my particular driving taste and aftermarket products (REVO). And you can set speedometer correctly for different tires.

Personally I would do Smarty all over again, and now that engine warranty is out on my '06 I will likely go to Smarty Jr. for that truck as well.

Works flawlessly with my mods. Throttle response is immediate no matter what the settings. Have been able to pull anything and still keep my mileage at a high level. MY best mpg has been 22. 6 with this SMARTY set correctly. I do agree on the cruise, but it hasn't been a huge issue for me. You won't be disappointed unless you expect major power increase.

What is the problem with cruise not working?I very seldom use cruise when towing but use it a lot running empty. If I'm on fairly flat ground I'll use it towing, but that's not likely in Va.

My cruise with DTT auto, 125hp Injectors and smarty works pretty well. The issue is that when you start to go up a small hill the cruise responds by giving more throttle, and with the smarty/bigger injectors it overshoots, then undershoots, and slowly figures it out. Its not terrible on my truck but others have reported bad surging type issues. I have heard of people restricting the vacuum line to the cruise control unit to make it not respond as hard as stock. I dont feel its terrible, but it doesn't act exactly like stock. Still a good investment!

Thanks Kevin,

Here's my problem: I had Dr. Performance add "stage two" to my truck in 2000. He told me not to diconnect the batteries at the same time, the ECM would default back to stock. Well it was done , by a shop not me, and my valves are rattling and truck has lost power. I'm thinking of going to a Dodge dealer and get the ECM reflashed. Our local dealer lost the dealership when Chrysler revamped ,they now have no access to the program.

If I add a Smarty will it straighten everything out or should I get it reflashed first?

Dr. Performance is not in bussiness anymore.

The smarty comes preloaded with the newest Dodge stock software loaded in it, so it doesn't care what you have preloaded to your ecm currently. If will write its own for all the smarty versions, and if/when you want/need to go back to stock, it will put the newest software version dodge had at the time the smarty was built back into the ECM. I wouldn't worry about getting your ecm reflashed by dealer if your going to get the smarty. Another bonus is that once you load or unload the smarty to your truck, you get the high idle enabled so it will automatically idle up below 32 degrees. Good luck and have fun!!!!

Thanks Kevin: I'll just save the $80 and put it toward the Smarty.

Now one more dumb question, you can only do one truck ,right?

No you can't. You can install and then uninstall and keep the high idle feature on the 2nd truck but that's it.

the smarty is VIN# locked so you use it on your truck and its locked until you unload put back stock and then can use it on another 2nd gen 24v, but you can clear codes on either at anytime. all updated files having high idle or 3 cyc cold start et. should be able to be transferred to both ecms' permanent.

Yes, one truck at a time... . but you can use the SMARTY to check codes in other vehicles while it is still programed to your truck.

I had one on my 2000. It was awesome. I had a Edge comp and the SMARTY made the truck feel a lot stronger than the Edge. I never had the truck dyno'ed though.
