Exhuast wrap??? Is it worth it???

I'm gonna install a new 4" mbrp exhaust on my truck this weekend. I was wondering if wraping the down pipe was a good idea? Any feed back would be great and thanks in advance!!!

It really depends on who you talk to. For a daily driver I'd recommend not wrapping the exhaust, but for a competition rig it might be worthwhile. The problem with wrapping is if the wrap gets wet at all, you're locking that in against the metal, which leads to rust which probably won't be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

I wrapped my downpipe to clean it up and reduce the the temps of the surrounding area. Keeping the pipe warmer does help expel the gasses... There is some thermodynamic law regarding that but I am no scientist. As for the pipe getting wet and trapping moisture... Any water to get on it while driving will be instantly turned to steam. . From the turbo outlet to the point where the downpipe ends those exhaust gases are mighty hot.

we are experimenting with the truck in my sig. it has a ss manifold and a ss turbo exhaust housing. i have a blanket on both and raped the down pipe to the end of the transfer case. the idea of the blankets was to keep the exhaust expanded untill it went through the turbo to get the 13 cm to act like a 12 cm. i have trans-cool's on the g56 and the 5" pipe got very close to the trans-cool. that is why i got the idea to wrap the down pipe to the resonator. it dropped the transmission temp a lot more than i expected. i think it was a combination of the two, by not heating the air around the turbo and manifold and passing it around the transmission. i like it a lot. it is quieter also. r. taylor the opposite is true, as the gas cools off it contracts. with his mbrp or my 5" it will not make any difference in back pressure

Very few mods we do have a cash payback that is worthwhile,but all the little things add up to make better driveability and efficiency. I had my 94 wrapped for over 10 years before I checked it. The aluminized down pipe looked like new

I've done all I could to make my truck quieter from ATP supplied valve and oil pan covers to totally lined the entire cab with Dynamat extreme and Second Skin audio. Although it quieted down my truck significantly (by over 3db). I am still looking for ways to quiet it down even more and I believe wrapping the exhaust will contribute to a quieter truck. I am planning to wrap the entire exhaust in two layers. I have 500 ft of wrap in the garage just waiting for time to do it.

Environment plays a big deal in it guys. I'm coming from the Northwest where there's water on the ground about half the year (or more) and exhausts rot out if they're wrapped. In SoCal, obviously, your mileage may vary. Being in Florida now I haven't really talked with anyone local about it.

I do know that the person at Borla I spoke with definitely said they would NOT warranty anything that had been wrapped.

None of the header mfg's approve it either... ... ... . but our diesels work a bit different than gassers

my truck has the mo90072 donaldson resonator and m101181 muffler. with the blankets on the manifold and turbo and wrapped down pipe it is a lot quieter than stock. the blankets come preshaped and cut and are very easy to install.

I am doing a HE351VE install this spring and will be doing header/turbo blankets and wrapping the exhaust past the trans.

I will be using a Fleece controller with the exhaust brake option.
