Not easily. Those who run stand-alones can do it. Most utilize it to help with turbo spool.

I believe Marco showed a loss of power on the late 3rd gens when removing it... although I don't know the particulars of how the test was performed.

Noy unless you completely reprogram the ECU, and I mean EVERYTHING in the ECU or things will not work correctly.
 
I have read that installing larger injectors helps limit the 3rd event. Not sure how you would tell but larger injectors and timing make it smaller and improve fuel economy.

No, larger injectors do nothing to the events. Timing does nothing to the events. They are still there in their exact same form until the programming is changed.



From my readings the third event is used to keep the cat hot



No, the CAT on these trucks is nothing more than a particulate trap that gets hot under normal driving. The 3rd event never even activates until certain condtions are met, chiefly high load and high rpm. Its quite possible to drive around all day and never activate anything more than the 2 base events.
