Uh... nothing showing up yet. Actually, hopefully you won't mind the hijack, but what are the symptoms when something does happen? And how expensive is the prevention? Switching to studs, I assume?
ARP Studs are not cheap, neither is a head gasket set.
Symptoms will be one or more of the following; overheat, overflowing coolant bottle, coolant leaks around the head, white smoke that smells like coolant, and WCS, coolant in the oil.
Now "They" say (whoever "they" are) that the stock head gasket and bolts are good to 45+/- psi boost, and with studs you might get to 60psi.
I opted the safe route when I put my twins on, and got the studs and 120hp injectors. I have yet to break 50psi, and rarely break 40. I have not dynoed my truck yet so I have no idea what my total HP/TQ is.
Now I went for a loooong time with 100hp injectors and an Edge EZ then Edge Comp on stock turbo and exhaust. My savior for the mountain passes was the Snow Performance Water/Meth injection.
It works as advertised. It is so cool to watch the EGTs
drop with the cruise control set as you are pulling a hill when it turns on. Don't ask me about mileage with the W/M injection. It is all a matter of how long your truck runs at the boost pressure the system turns on at.
For me, 5 gallons of 50/50 water to methanol flavored windshield wash fluid would get me from Denver, over Eisenhower on 1-70, and up Gore Pass (west of Kremmling) unloaded, and back home again with a load of firewood - 300 miles... with my old setup, and that was manually turning the system on when my EGTs would hit 1100 on the steeper/longer grades.
NOTE - I have one of the first run Snow Perf kits from 2003-2004. Now they have kits that are multi control including EGT threshold.
If you don't have, or want to dump another $5k+ into your truck, then go with a bigger or hybrid turbo with the larger injectors, and a Water/Meth injection kit.
