hello,

I'll get straight to my main question and then tell the story: On the G56 transmission, should the drain and fill plugs have a washer, and is it possible to get a replacement washer?

Here's the story: After I had the dealer change the fluid in my G56 transmission, I found it leaking fluid from the drain plug. I noticed the drain plug was missing the washer. The fill plug, which appears to be identical to the drain plug, did have the washer. I took my truck back to the dealer and gave them the same information, and they said they would take care of it. I got my truck back from the dealer again, and now both the drain and fill plugs are missing the washer and instead appear to have some kind of white thread sealant. Several days after the dealer did the work and at ambient temperature of about 45 degrees Fahrenheit, the small amount of sealant exposed around the plugs is the consistency of grease, and no transmission fluid is leaking. Does anybody know what kind of sealant they might have used?

Previously, I have been the one to change the transmission fluid, and I may do so again. I never had a problem with leaks, never lost the washers, never used a sealant and don't want to use a sealant in the future. I would like to check the fluid level in the transmission, because the dealer made some other mistakes and I don't trust their work. In the event that I am stuck with using a sealant, what kind should I use? I'm planning to go back the dealer and demand that both washers be replaced; but before I do that I'd like to know if the washer is available and what thoughts other TDR members may have.

Thanks for your consideration.

Just changed my fluid. Fill plug had a washer. Drain plug did not but it my have been stuck on the case. Long as it doesn't leak and was at the right fluid level I would roll on.

Ditto.

Same with mine. I've done the last two changes. No leaks thus far.
