Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Crank case vent tube

Im going to throw away the bottle, and put an extension on my crank case hose. Do most people just bring it straight down ? Or run it toward the back of the truck ?

You can pretty much run it anyplace you want. Just make sure it always goes down hill and in a place so any oil vapor will not collect on anything you don't want it to. If not down hill condensation can collect and freeze plugging it.

Does the hose have to be oil resistant ? Or can I use coolant (water) hose ?

I used heater hose, A pipe nipple and two hose clamps 8yrs. ago. Its still there.

That should make it pretty simple. The oil resistant hose that I found was pretty expensive.

Ever think about donating the bottle to one of the less fortunate TDR members who live in one of the strict emissions states that require a totally stock setup?

Mine blew off under the hood one day and I found it on top of the turbo, well done. That is when I found that the hose extension that I made up (heater hose) to get it below the radiator was softening. I will be replacing it with oil resistant or whatever. I just dont want the extension piece to degrade and become a plug instead of a vent.

same thing for me, ran mine straight down to avoid any potential problems. It has been problem free for 6 years this way. I just put some cardboard under the front of the truck in the garage to catch the couple of drips aweek I get.



usually more drips in the winter than the summer due to condensation in the tube.

Anyone got any morre detail to the PVC Mod? Like measurements and such.



It seems very straight forward and all, but if so many have done it, maybe someone wrote down some tubing lenghts and ancilary parts needs?

I added one awhile back, regular heater hose with a nipple. Blew it off four months later. I figured the heat and oil ate it up. It gets pretty hot down here in Louisiana during the summer. Never put another back on.

What Happens If You Keep The Stock Crankcase Vent

chief, is that what you did on yours or just something that you came across? Like the looks of it, wondering if a slope towards the back would be a good idea to keep water from condensation from running back into the engine?



May have to fab something like that up come summer time.
