Hey guys, im still building my 98 12valve. Here is my question.

The Bosch P7100 160hp vs. P7100 215hp pump. I have a early 98 12 valve with an automatic transmission that came with the 160hp pump. Is this the same injection pump with different guts???? If so what parts are different? And can I rebuild my 160hp pump to preform as well as the 215hp pump?

Looking foward to hearing from you guys

Thanks again

Actually you have a 180 hp pump(160s were 89 to 95 and First gen mite have been less).

215 and 180 two different animals you would need to gut the 180 and rebuild it totally. Better to buy rebuilt 215 from reputable shop(Piers probalby could set you up with one. He could add hp to it too. )

Thanks for the correction! I am getting good power from the 180hp pump. I have changed out the delivery valves, added 3k spring, ddp adj fuel plate that is in max fuel position and ddp stage 2 75hp injectors for the fuel system. ATS manifold and intake, and industrail inj phat shaft 62 w/ full 4'' exaust to let it breath. new head studs and valve springs on the way. Is there any way to tell how much power im producing without a dyno?

Yes there are two equations but I don't have them at my finger tips they are in the TDR magazines from many years ago. You woud have to have time, measured distance and someting else. You could E-Mail the Editor I think he knows them by heart.

Tommorow I will look thru my old issues.

Also with your pump are ready turned up no reason for 215 pump.

As a point of interest the pistons are different from the 180 to 215 engines as well. The ring lands are spaced differently and will take more heat in the 215 engine. The camshaft is also different. Shadrach

160's are 94-95 auto. 89-93 used the VE, totally different pump.

As far as power without a dyno, there are 3 other ways. ET from the track. 1/4 mile trap speed from the track (more accurate than ET). Or get a Gtech, it uses an accelerometer and the input weight of your truck (must be accurate) and calculates hp off the rate of acceleration.

According to my local injection pump shop the two pumps are vary similar and do have slightly different internals but the main difference is the amount of timing (lift) they are set to. I had asked the main re-builder there if it was worth pulling my 180 out and have it changed to the 215 internals and he said just re-time it.

It may matter if you are trying to push 500+ rwhp but if not, why spend the money?

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought there was a helical cam in the 215 pump that gave it advance in timing that the 180 did not have
