Well I bit the big one and bought a S&W MP15x.

also picked up 3-30rnd mags. , 500 rnds 5. 56 and a sling. Now I can't wait to get her cleaned up and put some down range.

Sounds like an interesting piece. Is it direct impingement or piston operated? I've seen several S&W's but havent made the jump to an AR. I hate chasin' my brass:-laf. GregH

Its uses a gas system. Just below the front sight is a gas tube that operates the bolt assy.

When my wife got home and looked at it she said " that looks like an effin machine gun " I just smiled, then she said " that thing is scary lookin " My smile got bigger.

Congrats on the purchase. While I dont have one I have looked at them. As much as I would like one (or any varietal of that type for that matter) my mini will have to suffice for that type of firearm. It has and does all I ask of it. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new rifle. Not nearly as sexy as the MP15 though. A Remington 700 SPS Varmit 308 left hand. Should see it next week. Of the dozen or so firearms I have owned over the years it will be the first one that is actually left hand. Us southpaw shooters definitely take it in the shorts when it comes to selection in left hand. Really looking forward to it, getting used to it and then quite possibly bombing the heck out of it, well at least a litlle bit. While I dont hunt much anymore it may very well be more of a range queen than anything else. Should be a decent base to start with.

Hope you enjoy your new rifle. The shop I was at had two left hand AR-15 units in stock. I don't remember the brand or price. The shop I got mine from is Jensen Arms in Loveland. They have great prices that are below MSRP.

Guns and mags

Nice new toy! A couple years ago (2 days after election!) I got a DPMS lr308 AP4. I had a few thousand rounds of mil match 308 and really wanted the thing. I've put a thousand or so through it and cant get enough! They are very round sensitive. 4" -5" groups with mil ball and 3/4" groups with Remington core lokt!

I believe yours takes regular AR mags. CP mags makes great mags at a very reasonable price. I bought 6 and all work great. They have very strong springs, so a 20rnd only takes 19 unless you force it. They never fail to feed though. I can't remember where I got them, but they offered veteran discounts. I'll try to find them if you're interested.

Keep Shootin!

There are a few out there. I know Stag Arms is one of the ones that makes an effort for lefties in the AR world and they are not priced badly $900-1200. Their price is really not bad considering many manufacturers add another 100+ or so to the lefty models and they only add 50ish. I dont know about their quality as I dont know anyone who has one lefty or righty and I dont seem to hear too much about them. There are lefties of many varieties out there in general but usually you just have a lot fewer models to choose from and in some cases even if the model does come lefty it might be limited in caliber choice. For example in just the Remignton 700 line in right hand they have 34 different models (not calibers) to choose from, in left hand 5 models only.

Enough about that, enjoy your new MP it will be a hoot and you best get another 500-1000 rounds as the 500 wont last long. Well unless your like my bil who has a Les Baer and has only shot about 25 rounds through it in 2 years.
