Extending OCIs...filter changes?

Are Airaid air filter any good.

I wonder if that would over-spin the stock turbo, though. It DID feel a lot crisper, and now that I've been driving it for a few hours, it kinda seems pokey by comparison. Oh well, I don't think I'll chance it.

I've noticed that when I drive it normally (easily) I rarely go over half throttle. Boost gets up to about 25 then slowly creeps up to around 28 or so. I assume that's where the waste gate normally opens. Only when I floor it for more than a few seconds does boost get past 40. I also assume that's due to the flow from the 4000 overtaking the "leak" caused by the waste gate on the stock turbo?

You could try a Quad boost fooler, they work well and are inexpensive, that would keep your wastegate intact, just hold it shut longer... . (I could be dangerous)

He is running a BF, and the reference for the WG on the A4K+ twins doens't come from the solenoid any longer, it comes from the primary's boost. So it opens as the primary gets sped up.

You really don't want the WG to stay shut on a stocker twin setup, the HE351 just doesn't move enough air on the exhaust side to keep the DP in check, 2:1 is easily obtained with the HE351 in a single app, I'd hate to see it when you are feeding the air of twins into the motor. ATS enlarges the WG opening to improve the flow even more.

AH64ID, the earlier version of my turbo has to have it's waste gate opening enlarged, however my model didn't. I'm guessing that the turbo on the '03-'04. 5 was different and later models had slightly different turbo.
I remember I had to install a boost fooler to get the digital boost gauge to read accurately, but what does the boost fooler actually do, since my WG actuator is mechanical now?
Thanks

Intersing, ATS told me they inlarge the WG on both the HE341 (03-04) and the HE351 (04. 5-07).

A boost fooler modifies the signal from the MAP sensor to the ECM to show about 22-24 psi max (vs what is actaully being made). 22-24 psi will allow the ECM to provide full fueling, but won't show an overboost condition even thou anything over about 34-35 should. So you can fuel and boost to the levels that you want to and the ECM isn't the wiser.

With a Smarty (on most trucks) the WG off tuning will allow you to run up to ~44 psi without a defuel condition, but ~44 is where the MAP sensor max's out and the ECM defuels.

Nope. My instructions clearly stated that the earlier version of the common rail motors had a turbo with a smaller waste gate opening. Those had to be opened up to the size of the newer model (mine).
Thanks for the info on what the BF actually does.

Intersting, I wonder if they thought I had an 03-04 when I talked to them?

I know its a late post but just trying to clear things up. .

With the ATS plus 4000 turbo kit and using the HE341 the WG opening size needs to be increased, Not with the HE351...

If going W/ATS 5000 Plus turbo and the HE351 WG opening size is increased to (I believe) 1. 0 inch.

The waste gate opening on the 341 is . 75" The opening on the 351 is . 87". The waste gate setting on a new 351 was 18#. The 341 was around 22-23#. The whole point of the 4000 & 5000 systems is to supply a lot of air with out overdriving the stock turbo. My waste gate is set to open @ 16#. Get plenty of boost and hopefully keep drive pressure down.
