I like to see what kind of numbers you guys see on a stock truck. You can in my signature that I have an Ice Box and Aeroturbine 4040XL and everything else is stock. I have a Smarty but have not hooked it up yet. I'm trying to get good baseline numbers before loading it.

Today I was pulling a 5500 lb trailer, 92 degrees outside on a relatively flat road, like you'd see in eastern Colorado, and was continually seeing 1000 - 1100. Does that seem hot? I had it in the tow haul mode and the cruise was set at 60 mph. If I hit decent little downhill she'd cool off to the 900's but would come right back up on the next incline.

What am I going to see when I head up to the hills? Please bear with me, this is all new to me.

Greg.

By the way, the probe is mounted towards the front of the engine in front of the down pipe if that makes sense. The guy that helped me did not use the down pipe because he hadn't seen one like on my 07 so he went in front of it. Hope you can understand what I'm saying.

Unmolested ISB5. 9 HPCR engines will produce pyro temps of around 1450* during hard climbs, loaded to GCWR, in high ambient temps. It is nothing to worry about. They can do that all day everyday without failure.

Your signature is not showing.

Assuming you have a newer truck, at that altitude the temps sound normal. Now, when you add the Smarty and timing it should help. Consider investing in a boost fooler if you don't have one as that will knock some off the top and allow more boost when you need it in the mid-range.

Smarty senior boost fools to 42 psi. I pulled my bf off when I run my smarty because I was worried about drive pressures.

Just my thought

No, Smarty does not boost fool. Without a boost fooler you will still only have about 32-35 psi max when it could be up to 40 psi. The only thing you can do with a Smarty is turn off the WG and thats much worse than a BF. The Quad BF will attempt to keep boost in the 40-42 psi range. Assuming stock turbo and controls of course.

Drive pressures only get out of hand when you get up around 40 psi and keepo the rpms over 2500. Make it pull in the TQ band under 2500 and drive pressures are totally manageable.

My '03 with the BD super B turbo and manifold runs about 450 degrees and 2# of boost at 65 MPH on level ground with no wind. This is measured after turbo. The stocker ran about 400 degrees and 6# in the same conditions.

My 05 before Smarty Jr install ran 1350 degrees on hard runs with 26-28 boost. Now with Jr set on #3 100hp setting I never top 1050 degrees and can hit 32-34 boost. Running down the road at 70 she sees about 600 degrees and 4 lbs boost. Only mods are in my sig.

You didn't say if you have a Smarty or Smarty Jr, but here is my rule of thumb for towing EGT's on a Smarty Jr. I am not sure if the Sr has the same timing profiles or not.

Stock: 1400 max cont, 1450 momentary

TM1: 1400 max cont, 1450 momentary

TM2: 1300 max cont, 1350 momentary

TM3: 1350 max cont, 1400 momentary

TM4: 1250 max cont, 1300 momentary

Ummm, if I read this correctly; your post turbo??
