I went to my local drive shaft builder. he quoted me $400 out the door for a one piece drive shaft, 4" aluminum using my old slip yoke all new joints (greasable) and Balanced included.

My carrier bearing is about to the dust.

The wall thickness seemed thick when i tapped on it.

almost $250 cheaper than factory 1 pc through dog house diesel.

Help me to figure it out which direction i should go.

TIA

:confused::confused:

dog house Diesel. I have had my one piece in now for over 30k and it's flawless. I tow heavy and I have no more launch shutter either. I have a 6 speed stick. The Drive shaft is huge.

just trying not to waste money.
i forgot to add that it is a pre-made shaft on the rack. just gotta switch the yoke out, and there going to shorting it it needed. wont know till the measure my old one on the ground.

That's no comparison for me. I'd go aftermarket!
Around here I got quotes of $1k to have a shop build it. With the purchase from Dodge and after having a shop shorten and balance the new one, I was in to it for $800.
The shop that balanced it said they'd been seeing quite a few of these come through.
If you get a DC part, a shop will gladly take the old one for recycling in case you wondered what to do with it.

If your old stuff in tight and good shape that is a good price. Doghouse has the best price on the OEM I have found with everything new. I have the NV5600 and had to get a one piece built in Houston and everything new was right at $800.

Name of shop please - - either here or PM - - I'll be in Roanoke in April this spring

lol long story today. the series (size of the u joint was smaller than i originally had on the factory shaft. They didn't have the ability to deal with 5 in aluminum. (they swore the one they had on the rack was the same size u joint. didn't find out till i dropped it off and they called me later. )

However, American drive axles, Fort worth have taken good care of me in the past. the do all sizes, and tend to be heavier in semi drive shafts. )

So... . The new mo-par 1 pc will be here on Thursday from dog house diesel.
Hope that goes smooth... lol that's life huh. .

Hmm, if you had the yokes, I'd wager Inland Truck could have done it a little cheaper. They do a lot for me in their Denton Store, and just about everything has been done right. What little was wrong that was their fault, they've fixed, sometimes with a little pressure, usually just at my say-so, depending on which person up front I get. Something to keep in mind next time... ...

As I read your original post , I thought to myself, 4" thats too darn small to work in his truck... glad you caught it . Have the one piece in my '03 for over a year now, no issues at all !:D

MMeier, was it the drive line shop you recommended to me, when I was in Vegas with a bad U-joint, that did the work. Good people there and very fair in thier prices, maybe you oughta mention thier Name. (I forgot it) (sorry getting old) :-laf

The way it was explained to me, they can't reuse the iron parts with the new aluminum shaft - they have to use aluminum yokes.

Ah, yes, they would. Those are totally different worlds, there. I must've missed that you had an aluminum stock shaft. Guess that's why I stick with the ol' steel tubes!!

They just shortened the shaft the 1. 5" or whatever it was... . bought the shaft through Saitta - Trudeau in Pahrump. Anyways anyone need anything driveline related in the Vegas area, try these guys, as Steve pointed out very reasonable and fair in pricing. Also, used them on my several trans R&R's on the '03. gota a few thousand miles on the new one piece.

WOW!!
I love it!!!!
I now can apply more than 30% power from a stop to 20mph.
I feel as if i now have 40hp more!!
this is a fruitful mod, especially if you need joints or a carrier bearing!!!!!!!

do it!!

JFought-

Glad you moved ahead with the new shaft! I did the same upgrade about 6 months ago and have zero regrets!!! I was truly amazed with difference it made. I use to have a lot of drive-line shutter when I pulled heavy trailers and had to compensate with my air-bags... . but with the new shaft I have zero vibrations in tow or not!!

Southbounf & JFought,

Can you help me out... . I have a 2006 2500 Megacab that I converted to a dually. I just went to the 1 piece Mopar shaft and the clearance looks tight between the rear underside cab structural member and the shaft. WIth no load, I can get 2 fingers between the shaft and the body crossmember. Today i hooked up my trailer and 1 finger could be squeezed in is all before putting air in the bags... ... . I am a bit concerned if I am towinf and lose air pressure if It might hit. How it the clearance on your trucks?

Thanks
