6.7 Longgivity?!?!?!

I am looking at an 08 3500 single wheel 4 x4 6. 7 auto with 152k miles on it. I am wondering what the expected life is on this generation of Dodges... . I have owned 4 dodges diesels so far. . How long are the new automatics going? If it says Tow Haul does it have an Exhaust brake???

All 6. 7's have the exhaust brake. The button for it is in the dash and unrelated to the tow/haul button in the shifter. Longevity depends on well it is taken care of. With proper maintenance and no mistreatment, you can reasonably expect it to last a very long time.

The Speed Channel recently had a show on the CTD. The guys on Truck Universe debut an 08 with over 280K towing miles. Cummins had taken the motor and broke it down and all the moving parts, crank, cams etc passed all the new specs.



Leave them stock and do regular oil changes, air filters, fuel filters and avoid short distance driving and they (6. 7) will go 300K easy.

Actually, I'm almost at 324,000 miles. I just replaced the fuel system pressure relief valve yesterday and the fan clutch has been out all winter, the truck runs so cool I haven't needed to replace it to this point, probably will need to pretty quick. The engine and transmission are tough, don't worry about mileage on them, if the truck has been taken care of 152k should be just broken in good.

This truck has a lot of wear on outside and inside of front tires, are the 4x4 having problems with ball joints or wheel bearings?? looks like has some kind of yellow shocks on front!

not rotating the tires can show wear like that. I rotate ours about 5K miles. fronts wear on the outer edges, rears wear in the middle. Drive it on level road and see if it pulls to either side. I purhase 5yr front end alignment from NTB and have it done about twice a year.

Even wear on inside and outside tire edges is usually a strong indication of under inflation. The first owner was almost certainly not a TDR member and probably didn't understand the weight of the mighty Cummins engine.

Worn front end parts would usually show up as inregular wear patterns.

Yellow shocks are probably some cheap auto parts store product.

Profiling is illegal Yellow shocks might mean Monroe Magnums, they are not cheap or junk... .

Okay, they're not cheap. I have heard of them but don't know anything about them other than they are not Bilsteins.

Where do you buy Monroe's? AutoZone?

Monroe is Napa and Car Quest's main shock supplier. Autozone, Checker and O'Rileys might have them but I rarely use them as they are not local in my little town.



You probably remember back in the day when most large tire and auto repair shops had the large blue and yellow Monroe banners. They have been around for 75 years and are currently the largest supplier in the world for OEM and after market.



The Monroe Gas-Grande use a 5/8" piston shaft with a 1 3/8" piston. I am sure they are not as good as the specialized companies like Bilstein, Rancho and Koni, however they are available without mail order and have the lifetime warranty. About $53. 00 each v/s $70. 00 for Bilstein's.

Back to the OP's question. The ISB6. 7 are capable of long service life although I don't know if their service life will prove as long as earlier 5. 9s.

TulsaOkie, who hasn't posted in awhile, had about 350k miles on an '07. 5 a few months ago.

I bought a tailgate off of a guy from Lampassas,Tx. It was off his '07 6. 7 Dually which is
constantly on the road hauling trailers,horses,etc. Told me it had 500,000 on it. Manual trans with one clutch replacement. Had a '98 with 900,000 on it when he sold it and it supposedly has 1. 2 mil. on it now. Haven't seen these trucks so far as verifying anything... ... ...
