Amsoil'd my truck yesterday...

Spent about 5 undisturbed hrs yesterday in the garage and replaced most of my fluids with Amsoil: I even got to listen to the music I like ... :-laf

- 12 qts of AME HDD 15W-40 motor oil and an Eea 80 filter

- 12 qts of ATF in the trans (saw lots of gunk in the pan, just had the trans rebuilt) Did the pan and magnet even get cleaned during the rebuild?

- 5 qts and 3. 25 qts of Severe Gear 75W-90 in the rear and front diffs (front fluid looked brand new, rear was darker and had some black residue on the magnet)

- 2. 5 qts of ATF in the X-fer case

Still need to replace the batteries... I have the new Costco's sitting on the bench.

Ready for camping / RV season !!

I use Amsoil, front to back, yearly engine oil changes. I did get a small increase of fuel mileage to.

I have been told that ATF+4 is the same regardless of manufacturer, due to Chrysler's very tight specs. But there is a $$ difference with name brands and no names.

Good deal, I am going to be doing my 50K service to the trans/xcase/diffs here soon. . sticking with amsoil all around.

I am positive that Amsoil is not rebranded, only 1 way to get it.

Your statement is generally true and accurate about most engine oils, automatic transmission lubes, and differential lubes. If the product meets the spec claimed on the bottle it is sold in it is acceptable for use as intended.

Exhaustive laboratory testing, some of which has been published in TDR magazine, has identified minor differences among brands of lubricants but they are small and not likely to ever be noticed by ordinary consumers.

I used Shell Rotella diesel engine oil for 325,000 miles in my first Cummins diesel, an '01. The truck now belongs to a friend who has been my mechanic since I bought that truck. The odometer now shows 352k and he uses the same oil brand. There are better oil brands available according to test reports I have read but clearly that oil was good enough.

I searched the list of brand names twice and could not find Amway synthetics listed anywhere.

Actually any fluid that meets the mfg's specs can be used whether or not that fluid mfg has paid a licensing fee to the vehicle mfg. In this case Amsoil chooses to spend their money wisely and not pay spurious marketing fees. Been using Amsoil on the whole fleet for three years now and spent way less then if I hadn't. Plus I'm pretty sure I spent quality time with the family instead of changing oil unnecessarily... .

Exactly... Just like the Valvoline with the C on it isn't built for Cummins, but is in a marketing partnership.

All I know is that I use synthetic in everything I own, even the lawnmower...



I started down the Amsoil path with my boat. After GI Joes closed down (after a 60 year run in Portland), I could no longer buy Cobra outdrive oil.



I decided to try Amsoil Marine gear lube and their TCW4 motor oil and the boat has never run better. When shifting from neutral into gear, the outdrive used to chatter no matter how quickly I tried to shift. Now it just drops into gear smmmmoooootttthhhhhlllly.



I used to find lots of stuff on the drain plug magnet, none now...



The Amsoil was actually less expensive than the Cobra Hi-Vis stuff.



Then I couldn't locate a good priced synthetic gear lube for the truck, so I started using their Severe Gear.



Then I wanted to change the truck motor oil to synthetic and the Amsoil is the same price as every other synthetic motor oil out there.



The Amsoil Eea 80 filter is approx $3 more than the Fleetgaurd 16035 at the local Cummins distributor. The Cummins distributor used to give me a discount because of where I work and the TDR, now they just say no. So, I say no to them...



ATF+4 at the local Schucks is now $7/qt. Amsoil was $7. 10/qt...
