Hi guys, I'm on a vacation trip from Ct, and on the way down here my truck had two separate drop outs. I got a CEL, that went away next start. I read the codes from the key & @ the auto parts store, came up with the dreaded P1693. does anyone near Manning SC have a Smarty or a higher tech Code scanner that I may use to see what the Problem is? Thanks, Moose

Ken,

Moose called me this afternoon, I only have a reader, forget the model name. It does have freeze frame but I have never looked any deeper than that.

Thanks!!!

Got the codes read @ the local Dodge dealer, Stokes - Craven Dodge in Manning for less than $40. 00! Finally an honest dealership. I should have called them 2nd after posting here. The code was P1689 "no com between ECM / Injector Pump". My guess is the VanIkenn Box is dying. If it stalls me I can disconnect it, and continuo on my way. Thanks for all the help, Moose.

Moose,

At least you have an idea what is going on, safe travels.

Y'all visit again real soon SC needs tourist dollars, but ain't no need to ahem "feed the Bears" on I-95, 77 or 20 or any of our towns big or small.

As a realitively new SC state resident (about 9 years) last year we traveled a bit in the "Upstate" of SC that would be the NW corner, I was amazed at the scenery and in particular if you are a bit adventerous get one of the water fall trail brochures and pick a few out, short hike in, rewarded with real off the path treasures.

I think Ken can add a lot to this discussion, he's nearby to the Upstate.

As I have stated before I was getting code 1689 & thought that the VP 44 was on the way out. Took it to Dynamic Diesel in Reno,NV he disconnected the VP, ECM, PCM & Banks & cleaned all the connections. They said that a lot of the older trucks are throwing that code no commutation between ECM & Injection pump& all it is is dirty connections. They said that the connections have to be squeaky clean. I have put on about 20,000 since they did that & no problems (knock on wood). That may be your trouble.

Moose Truck if your VP is going down you might want to check the output of your lift pump. I'll bet if the VP is gone the LP is too and the cause of the VP failure.

Good Luck!

Code 1698 just means a code was set in anoter module. It is called the Companion Code. It isn't necessarily serious.

Good idea! I plan on doing that when I get home. I need to pull the engine due a broken ear on the adaptor plate due to the starter breaking off.

Thanks guys! Moose
