Anybody using this or something similar to get back the anti wear the Gov't took away. Seems a little expensive as it calls for 1 quart for every 5 quarts of oil but I guess you would eliminate 1 quart of oil to help offset the difference.

ci4 oil is still available you just have to know how to buy it. the government stoped all ci4 oils from being sold in quarts and gallon containers but is still available in 5 gallon and 55 gallon drums. the distributors carry both ci4 and cj4 oils in 5 and 55 so you have to specify the one you want.

I know the gov't. is meddling in parts of our lives where they absolutely don't belong, but what regulation are you talking about? Amsoil still offers CI4 oil in all quantities. What would be the point of offering it in some quantities, but not others?

I am also interested in seeing if this works as good as the good stuff once did :D.

I had switched to CAT DEO 15w-40 after reading the article in issue 57 on pages 56-61.

Not the best, but a far cry from the worst. And it is about the only CI-4+ that I can find locally.

Cat CI 15W40 is still readily available in all sizes... Its basically Mobil oil with a slightly different additive package.

I went from CI Delo 15-40 to Valvoline Premium Blue CJ oil. The Blackstone report came back with triple the wear metals in the oil. I've got another 12 qts of the CJ to use up,but will be adding BG's Diesel Oil Conditioner to it next time. We'll see if it helps. Five gallon buckets of CI Delo are available locally still,so that'll probably be my next move.

Ah, Rislone, that takes me back. Please excuse the following flashback.

It was the late 90s and I was working in a warehouse for one of the largest auto parts stores in the country. One of the old timers there drove an early '70s Chevy with a 350 small block. He changed the oil every 3000 miles and substituted one quart of Rislone engine treatment for one quart of oil.

His engine had well over 300k miles on it. I wish I could recall the exact mileage - it was quite impressive.

I don't mean this as an endorsement for Rislone. (I generally think adding additives to good oil is pointless). Nevertheless, if I had no choice but to run CJ-4 oil, I'd be looking for something like this.

I question whether this particular product is appropriate for a diesel. My first question would be the base oil weight (I doubt it's 15w-40).

A quality oil has 'receipe' to it. This is what works for the company.

If you--or your wife girlfriend-- baked cakes or cookies and had a receipe that workd good, and one day decided that instead of 1 egg you wanted to put 3-4 in it because you like eggs, what would happen???

Cummins didn't reduce the expected service life numbers of the ISB engines when ULSD fuel and newer engine oils were mandated. I don't believe new oil formulations are going to have any effect to worry about.

Has anyone tried rubbing Rislone products on their scalp to cure male pattern baldness? I've been wondering if growing thick curly hair on my baldhead would make young women start calling me on the phone again.

Or how about for treating ED? Has anyone tried oil additives to help with that problem?

I tend to agree with Harvey but I did get 20 gallons of Valvoline Classic (ci4+) at NAPA while back. I stocked up b/o I wasn't sure how long it would be available. I will continue to use CI4+ as long as I can get it. I do remember ready somewhere on this board that some engine builders are recommending an additive with CJ oil after cam installs. They were starting to see pitting in the cams with CJ oils. I didn't use any additive after my cam, but I've always used CI oil.

There is no oil Company that I know of that would advise putting ANY OIL additives in their oils! If they did, why wouldn't they put the extra stuff in to begin with? It's already got the additives needed for the finished product. Having said that, not all oil companies use the high end additives, but just the same, the finished product will meet/exceed the specs listed on the containers

The bottom line is simple; these oil additives are making money for those that are producing it!

Thought I'd revive this thread. Would appreciate hearing from anybody who has used this additive as to its good/bad points.

The reduction in zinc is to keep the EPA mandated catalytic converters pure and uncontaminated, in the pursuit of ever cleaner air.
