You want the upgraded one that the shell stays attached to the truck, so after you upgrade all you get is the cartridge, no shell.

yep U want the one with the reusable shell - it has a finer micron rating.

but when it is time to replace, I still replace the whole assembly even though could just put a new cartridge in... costs some more but just worry about any residual particles left in the shell

with the 6. 7 can never be to anal about maintnance... IMO. my '08 saw the dealer way to many times after I bot it new. Just don't work it hard enough, drive it right, etc,,,,read in TDR they are still flashin the newer ones... hmmm?

Some of the 3rd gens did have a replaceable cartridge type filter. I think the change was made in early 09. Mine had the old style that I upgraded to the one that used the replaceable cartridge.

the 2010 has a drop in from the top,not to be confused withe the replaceable element that still comes off from the bottom

The origional for the 6. 7 will have a 410 in the part # the model you can replace just the element (from the bottom) will have a 633 on the label

bought the upgraded shell and went to change first cartridge. It did not come with new O-ring and now the old one is swelled enough to not go back in. Anyone else have this problem and why doesn't new cartridge come with o-ring?

The mopar DOES come with the o-ring it is inside the protective plastic bag the element is in

This is a little off subject, but I had a friend who was staying at our place for a few days, He has a 2007 Duramax, the fuel filter was due for replacement, let me say after helping him change it, I will never work on a Duramax again, to get to the filter you pull the pass side inner fender, disconnect the water sensor, remove the filter, reinstall the fender liner that has a mixture of two piece snaps that break, and one piece snaps, and two kinds of screws, then you prime the filter, bleed the filter, a total PITA, be thankful Cummins uses there brain when designing engines, GM really blew it on this one.

I guess he has never changed a fuel filter on an 07. 5 to 09, 6. 7L Cummins.

My son who has an 06, 5. 9L could not believe Cummins design the fuel filter like this on these engines.

It takes me at least 1/2 hour to change my fuel filter every 10K miles. I hope I never have to do this on the side of the road. I do carry an extra large plastic bag to wear, if I have to change on the side of the road tho.

I have no problem with my 09. . i drain the filter some, then break the seal on the canister, then drain it more, then take it off. . I don't get covered in fuel. .

then the filter gets routed back by the firewall and comes straight down. . no problem. Engine self bleeds the filter. I never have filled it before hand. .

Just bought a 2007 6. 7 and need to change the fuel filter. How can I tell by looking what kind of fuel filter I need? I am referring to the shell/no shell.

Thanks.

If your filter part# ends in 410 you need to buy the 633 if you already have the 633 you will just need to buy the 634

The '07. 5 and '08 as delivered from the factory used the complete replaceable canister fuel filter. I think the new can and filter insert type filters did not show up until '09 models.

If your '07. 5 is original you need the complete spin on cannister filter but you could order the changeover system from Geno's for the first filter change and then simply replace the insert filter in the future.
