I need some opinions on an issue we're having on my fresh rebuilt trans. Its in my '03 4x4 dually with the 47 series. Its shuttling shifting and shifts to drive too quick. Its like bang- bang -bang At first they thought it was a sticky valve body,BD tech support agreed and sent another and it still doing the same thing. My guys did find a bad spring in the old valve body. All the electronics have been replaced in the trans and the trans shifts the same on different Smarty levels. No codes have shown up. They are thinking perhaps a funky speed sensor, but don't really want to throw parts at it in hopes that fixes it. They also thought out loud about a trip to the dealer for a computer update. Truck hasn't been to the dealer in yrs and I personally don't see an update fixing this issue since it didn't do it before the rebuild.

What say you?

Trip to dealer waste of Time... have the Builder correct and Pay for the R/R. Do not get others involved. . it will just complicate the issue.

The builder has no problems correcting his work. We're trying to figure out what is causing the shuttle shift. Could a new Governor Pressure Solenoid screw up? When it does shift correctly, its nice and firm the way it should be. I've read about the Borg Warner upgraded GPS and wonder if its worth a try.

Yep, they can be bad out of the box if using the OE pieces. It sounds like a classic gov tranducer\solenoid problem, but, its hard to tell sometimes. The output shaft speed sensor is a definite possibility also.

I am running the upgraded GM solenoid and it is a totally different animal than the OE one. It works really well so far. So well I found I have othe rissues when I cleaned up the shifting.

Cerb, how much have you turned up that GM solenoid and what issues did you find? I also went with that one on my rebuild but have it turned all the way down. I'm thinking of turning it up a little but am unsure of what changes will happen when I do.

LOL, I found out the front flex band doesn't like life with lots of shifting and lots of TQ. Its kaput and throwing some indecisive gear hunt into the mix at odd times. The original worked fine but the truck was at road speed all the time in the West. Here in the south with slow speeds and lots of stop-n-go the Cummins ate it in about 70k.

I put it in as delivered from Suncoast. Works great for the setup I have. Have not played with the settings to see what the results would be.
