For those of you that didn't even know these existed... .

Oil Cooled High Output Alternator Delco 50DN 24 volt 270 amp.

It's on a new Gillig transit bus for the City Of Bangor.

Transit buses and motorcoaches use them a lot, one of our owners also operates a bus line, both the MCI and Setra brand coach have them.

I need to get one apart one of these days, it appears the feed line from the engine is the one on the top rear, then there is the tube that carries the oil to both the front and rear bearings, balance must flow around the center case and out the bottom fitting to return the oil to the engine.

Kinda' neat.

I forgot about transit buses and motorcoaches. I was thinking that they would be used in applications with high electrical loads such as emergency vehicles. Thanks for the photo. I too would be curious what is on the inside.

Just for perspective regarding the size of the alternator...

This is mounted on an ISL Cummins (L-10).

Also pics of the DPF, the Flash Gordon Tailpipe and the Thermo King heating/ac unit. No stupid plastic control doors on that puppy.

A/C compressor is a 4 cylinder X-430 T/K which is the same one used on a reefer unit for a 53' trailer. Should keep up just fine on that 40' bus... ... ... ... :-laf

Bus is well built, craftsmanship is very good. First time we have had Gillig's up here. Lot of hand built stainless parts on here.

Also the cooling fan is driven by a hydraulic motor.
