2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Smoging in calif without catalytic converter

I posted in the past about the problems with getting my 2500 4X4 1998 smogged in Calif. I received my "Limited Parts Exemption" as the cat for my truck is not available at this time my truck is now exemped that is untill parts become availble. Going through this process has beeen a Hoot.

When your cat arrives, weld some flanges on it and the mating pipes. Make a pipe up the same length as the cat and weld the same type flanges on it. Install cat for inspection/test, then go home and swap to pipe. The cat will be guaranteed to never go bad and can be easily reinstalled before the next test/inspection.

Are you serious?? My 98. 5 is coming up for smog in August. Is this commie state requiring that we add a Cat to our early model trucks?

Early 98 12 valves had CAT's. 98 1/2 24 valves did not have CAT'S so you will not need one.

Not saying I have done it, but I do know, and think I have seen it done, where someone COULD take a ceramic drill bit and drill through the cat's core several times, then whack it with a hammer and let all the parts fall out..... no welds, no seams(a regular long drill bit will work, too. Makes for a good muffler, of sorts. Deep tone, but not the loud compression "pop" that too many have). Not that I've done it.
