It will be interesting to watch this . I'm willing to bet by the time these engines have 30,000 miles most if not all the fuel dilution will be gone.

A side note, a customer brought in an 02 d max for an oil leak. It was massive, covered the bed ,tailgate ,and trailer he was pulling. Turns out he had lost an injector and it filled the crankcase with 5 gallons of fuel. The "oil" looked so good a co worker put it in his 24v. Repairs were made and the truck is still running great.

How is this going to happen after 30K miles. :confused: Are you referring to deleting the DPF and quit having regenerations so fuel is not dumping down the cylinders. It seems to me this is what is causing all this fuel in oil dilution. Until they get the regenerations out of the engine, I don't see how this can change. And, I think it would be even worse if bio diesel is going to be used. :{

If I may tag team on this thread- my truck gains oil at the rate of about 1/2" or so in 3 thousand miles of towing. From what I've been reading, the fuel dilution around town is a fact of life. Seeing it happen driving interstate speeds with the trailer on surprised me.

I changed oil at 2k and 6k and truck has 9k now. The change indicator went off the first time around 6500. I'm going to pull a sample and change it soon.

If this was a 5. 9 I'd be taking it in to the dealer, but from what I've been reading this is nothing unusual with the 6. 7's. If anyone thinks this is a problem, please speak up. I'm expecting some warranty related parts to fall off my truck soon.

I'm coming back to report that my earlier assessment seems to have been in error. Just got back my oil analysis report and fuel <1%. I have also read posts about not getting a complete drain unless the filler cap is removed before draining and allowing plenty of time. I think the last guy that changed my oil at the dealer didn't do this, and I was overfilled from the beginning.

On the first change I did myself, I did not know to remove the filler cap first, and after the change the new oil was black and slightly above the full mark. This last change at home I did remove the filler and let it drain for a good hour. After that the new oil was not black immediately, and precisely at the full mark.

I also posted my UOA results in the 6. 7 forum.

My apologies for the erroneous info.

My assumption is that a deleted 6. 7 will experience the same fuel dilution as stock configurations, yes?

Not if your using a Smarty or other tuner to cut out the regeneration. Depends on how complete your delete kit is.

I gree, if you quit the regenerations by dumping fuel through the engine then the fuel dilution will be at a minimum, and no more than the engines had prior to the new EPA requirements.

I believe this is a common issue with all Cummins Tier IV emission engines. That are used as daily drivers and have frequent regenerations that take place. This has been extensively discussed in many post for the last 3 1/2 years, ever since the 6. 7L engine was introduced.

My 08, 6. 7L use to have the fuel dilution issue also. The problem went away at 20,000 miles. Since then every oil change has shown no signs of fuel dilution.

Did you delete the DPF and quit having the regenerations through the engine. I'm not sure how else this would quit after 20K miles. Unless for some reason the rings swell up to the point that they are not allowing fuel to dump past them. Maybe Cummins needs to let us know about this. It would be nice to know. I've been hearing everything from 20K to 30K miles now before the fuel dilution stops. :confused:

The engine gets broken in by 30,000 miles and nothing gets out of the cylinder to dilute the oil. Dpf isn't the enemy the light duty cycles are.

Just my 2 cents here. My change oil light comes on 7,500 miles after I reset it from last time. I reset it right when I change oil. I change it as soon as I get home which might be another 2,500 miles. It doesn't bother me if it goes to 10,000. I have 35,000 on my 2011, (with full deletes). I have never had my oil level rise. Most times it showed a quart or 2 low just before I changed it. But the last change it showed less than a quart low. Rings must be sealing up. I always 3/4 fill my filter with oil before installing it.

And my oil doesn't look very dirty either.
