Stinky trailer when traveling.

I have not been able to get a definite answer on what this truck is able to pull. Has the overdrive automatic, 3. 54 rear end, 2wd. Pure stock, 118,000 original miles, as new in and out. Thanks !!

The 1st gen auto's never had a great tow rating unfortunately. It's rated for 12,000 GCWR so subtract the weight of your truck with you, passengers, supplies, and fuel in it from 12,000 and that's your tow rating. We all know anything with a Cummins and will tow a lot more, but that's what it was rated at from Dodge. In '93 they upped the rating to 14,000 GCWR with the super duty transmission cooler so you could increase the tow rating by adding the cooler. Sounds like a nice truck though!

I towed a 10,500-lb. fifth wheel about 100K miles with a '92 D350 equipped the same as yours. It towed it, but I had to be patient in the mountains. It towed a lot of miles with the overdrive turned off. A 4. 10 axle ratio would have done a better job, but with only 160-hp, it was limited.

400lbft of torque will get the job done but it is the (160)horsepower that determines how fast it will get done. The Brake system is another limiting factor as well as the marginal overdrive strength

I have a 10,000 lb 5th wheel, and the truck likes to try to overheat in the mountains of Colorado. I bought Derale atomic cooler for the transmission, but haven't installed it yet. Is the transmission temp the biggest limiting factor?
