Towing In Colder Weather

I bought an Edge monitor for my truck since it's not been "molested" but I stil wanted to monitor the activity, especially when towing. There isn't a listing on the monitor to choose boost or trans temp. I had the probe for EGT installed. There's supposed to be an update with the information to put them on the monitor but so far hasn't worked. Also, what EGT temp would be considered getting too hot? What about trans temp?

Let us know what you find out. I was thinking of doing the same thing since the edge appeared to be a simple plug in and quicker than installing the old style gauges. A few of the others still stand by the old analog gauges and maybe they know something.

I'm being told that my CS thinks that my truck is a manual transmission and thus won't offer a PID for trans temp. It's supposed to be updated this coming Monday. Now I have another issue, it's not reading ANYTHING! The screen shows INSIGHT CS and just sits there! It was reading the other facets I was monitoring before. Any suggestions as to what could be the issue? Do OBD ports go bad? The on board info center is still showing the data so I'm assuming the computer is working. This is getting frustrating!

Hi , You may not like what I have to say, but here goes.

If you plan on leaving your truck stock and have no plans on deleting. Than return/sell your Edge monitor.

The stock 2007. 5 and up trucks are designed to run hotter and have higher EGT's especially during the regen cycle.

I installed the analog gages when my truck had less than 10K miles on it. During the regen process I saw EGT's in the 1350F to 1450F readings. When not regening and towing my 5er, I would see EGT temps routinely in the 1100F range and would never go below 900F.

So, this along with warranty issue (all on emission equipment) I decide to delete. Of course this led to more $$ spent and work on the truck. I am happy now but it all started with a little EGT gage.

Jim is right on the money. I put gauges in my 05 and was immediately nervous with stock settings, 1450° was more common than 1200° with a load. The 6. 7's are even worse as regen's will cause the EGT's to skyrocket even without a load so it doesn't provide a good basis for comparison.

If you can let your self monitor the boost/egt for reference and not for driving style you will be fine with it. BUt i have seen several people drive off the gauges on a stock 6. 7 and they end up having issues with the emissions equipment since they are taking away the heat it needs to function properly. The 6. 7's are very reliable now, if its stock just drive it.

When I first installed my cs the screen would come up blank also. Pushing the enter button would restore the gauges. Now it works every time.

Edge sent me a download through Fusion and it seems to be working well now. I'm not sure what warranty issues to be concerned about since this is a monitor and not a programmer. I did notice that the EGT's are higher than some other trucks. So, if it runs hot normally, at what temp should I have concern? 1400? 1500?

Call edge, my cts did same thing, I plugged it in to laptop while on phone with edge. he fixed it on the spot. They have been real good on helping on the phone. Even though its stock, I still like to monitor things.
