Maybe one of you guys can make some sense out of this.

Here's the problem-

Write a division word problem involving groups in which the group size is unknown. Write your solution underneath the problem.

If anyone has an idea, I'd love to hear it.

Ummmmm..... :-laf

Melissa has 216 flowers. She wants to make vases with six flowers each to take to the retirement home.

How many vases will Melissa need?

216 / 6 = 36

Melissa will need 36 vases

Close, but you're not supposed to know how many flowers go in each vase, so how do you figure out the amount of vases? Dumb, huh!?

We went with-

If there are 56 eyes blinking at you, how many people are there?

56/2=28

You are just supposed to know that each person has two eyes. If it was stated in the problem that each person had two eyes, it would have been wrong.

My dad came up with that one. This was math homework for my 4th grade son.

415 liberals from New England chartered three airplanes to fly to the national convention. Enroute, they encountered a freak ice storm that decreased lift to 72% of that needed to keep the aircraft aloft. All three airplanes crash landed on the US/Canada border. 83. 8% of the passengers and crew perished. How many in each airplane did not and did the two governments agree to bury them in the US or in Canada?

I don't remember this type of "new math" when I was in school... no wonder kids stay home and play Call of Duty instead of going to school... .

Not sure if this belongs here..

At its closest point, where Mars is on the opposite side of the Earth - called opposition - Mars can be as close as 34. 6 million miles.

IF we had the technology to design a spacecraft to go the speed of light,

186,282 miles per second how long would it take to get there?
