Hauling a four wheeler behind a fifth wheel

I am planning an elk hunt to colorado and am wondering if I can tow a 5x10 trailer with a four wheeler on it behind a 28ft fifth wheel. I will be going from Arkansas though oklahoma, texas, and new mexico to reach colorado. What do ya'll think.

What you are inquiring about is called towing doubles or double towing and is permitted in some states on some highways such as interstates but forbidden entirely in some other states. It is a matter of overall length as well as the fact that you would be towing two trailers, not just one.

You'll have to ask each state''s DOT for their rules.

Not for sure but I dont think you need a full on class 1 lic. It is called Class 1 non commercial a vast difference in test's and insurance im sure. BUT I MAY BE WRONG IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE. I have seen these and talked to some that have them and really like them. Dont need any special lic and can still back up The ultimate single wheel trailer system.

I do it all the time through each of these states you talked about. My fifthwheel is 37ft. and my atv trailer is 8ft. I know i'm way too long, but iv'e never been stopped or had any problems, but i guess there's a first time for everything.

For recreational doubles that is only true in CA.



OK, TX, NM and CO allow doubles. TX max length is 65 ft, I believe the other states are longer, none are shorter. The only state I am not sure you are legal is AR, but that should be easy enough to check.

You are playing with fire big time. If Johny decides to stop and measure you be ready for you stuff to be impounded. If you get in a wreck be ready to be at fault. As said earlier each state has different regs. I have used Trans National Transportation Permit Agency to obtain my permits needed for oversize loads. For me it is worth the small price of permits to know that I am clear if anything happens or if Johny decides to measue.

ALL in FUN Calif really has some funny law's that other's dont. I have even seen a truck pulling a TT and then a ATV trailer behind the TT so go figure. I didnt think that was legal ANYPALCE both the trailers were on a ball

1st I dont know what a class 1 lic is and Ive been in the transportation industry and licensed to drive ANYTHING for over 20 years. I have a class A commercial with all endorsment except hazmat. 2nd DOT laws dont apply to recreational vehicles used for personal recreational use. Now if you are a RV puller and try to pull two trailers then you best be properly permited. What you are asking about is perfectly legal to do and is done on a regular basis. DOT cops don't ever look twice at RVs. You can drive as big an RV as you can afford pulling as many ATVs as you can, with no med card, no large vehicle driving test, no eye or hearing test, and there is not a DOT out there that could care less, except in Calif, all bets are off when you cross that line!

You can tow it no problem here in Colorado. I tow mine all over that way and my 5 er is longer than yours.
