7500 Mile Oil Changes ?

Has anyone gone the full 7500 miles before the engine change oil light comes on?. I am going to try to go with the schedule that the book says to do, my 05 had 5000 mile changes, what I don't want to do is be at 4000 miles and leave on a trip to have the light come on when I am 100 miles out, I do all my own service, and this truck is used 100% to tow the 5th wheel, plus some local driving when away on trips, it is never used a a DD or grocery getter. I would just like a little feed back on what others are getting, thanks

Yes my first run with my 11 the change light didn't come on till right at 7500 miles and so far every change has been pretty close to that also

I usually change every 5k, but last time was at 7500 miles. Still didn't have the oil change light come on.

Out of curiosity is it a time thing (mileage) or it samples somehow. HOW DOES IT KNOW

The dealer gave me four oil changes when I purchased my truck. Never could get more than 4500 miles with the Dodge paper filter and whatever oil they were using. (Mopar?) I have switched to Fleetgaurd (stratopore) and valvoline blue and now get another 1000 to 1500 miles between changes.

Mine is coming on at around 5k intervals, towing or running solo. My understanding is it is determined by how much regen is done, as that is the cause of fuel in the oil.



Last oil analysis I did was really looking good, though. Not much fuel at all.

I have 3 friends with 10-11 trucks. The only ones that go 7500 miles are the two that are deleted. The other and the first two when stock wouldn't make it much over 4-5K, if that.



If you are worried about the light coming on during a trip I would change it first. Since your 05 had 7. 5/15K mile intervals you are no stranger to changing oil early, so just change it and call it good.

Haven't had the truck long enough for a good history but my '11 had the first oil change at 7463 miles and the oil change message hadn't come on yet. The truck sees mostly longer trips on the interstate with some in town driving, about 2500 of those miles were towing. Also the average speed over that period (miles / engine hours) was 49. 62

My oil changes have been the same right around 4000 to 4500 miles. I sure don't see how causing my truck to burn more fuel and make me have to change the oil twice as much has helped clean up the environment. At least the air is cleaner. But now I can't drink the water because of all the excessive oil/fuel spills, due to more frequent oil changes, and the fuel fill ups have polluted the water supplies.

If it makes you feel better keep believing it was the oil and filter that increased it. The engine controller has no idea what oil and filter is in it, or if you even put oil in it. The change interval is calculated on your driving habits. No sensor like the Sprinter had.
