HHhuntitall!, You are NEVER a BOTHER!!!! :D WE are having fun and everyone is more than welcome to comment.

I love to tease and it is difficult to convey attitudes in writing! You have done no hijacking! We are here to encourage each other in our pursuits! "Iron sharpens Iron"! GregH

PS,. If I took what I know to Starbucks, it would still cost $2. 45 for a cup of coffee!:-laf

Well, thanks GHarm. I have to remind myself of humility at times, and that was my point of reflection this morn, which, of course brought to mind this discussion..... I thought, perhaps, I had overstepped myself in talking too much. I forget sometimes that other people know something, too!! :p

:StarSmucks:..... You have a much more attentive, understanding, and appreciative audience here, I'm sure!!!!!!! And we won't call the crazy ward on ya'... . which, if I did, it would be ironic, as they're probably looking for me... . :D

Ya I understand the bigger loop getin caught on things. I ride with gloves on and I just like the bigger loop cause I dont have to call time out take off the glove and then call time in again. It's all about preference. I doooooo like these guns.

I like the Bail on the 45/70 just fine, It fits my hand with a pair of gloves or mittens perfect. The large bail on my little 44 is the one I believe I will change out to Winchester's normal size. Although I do remember Dad commenting on the large lever keeping the rifle from falling too deep into his saddle scabard(sp).

... I think it could be called an UN-RADIAL, or Lineal, piston compression sequence... . ? :D And a self loader would be a repeatable lineal piston launcher? Makes me think of the cannon we built in ag shop..... fired 350 chevy and 360 Dodge pistons!!! We used to shoot at a stock tank on the neighbor North of the school from the ag shop. Drove my principal up the wall, but she never could catch us. She thought we were burning off Acetylene or propane. Never understood why we were always jumping the fence and running down to that tank... ... .

I don't usually hear the "Are you Crazy?!?!?" until after some lineal pistons have been launched... . teaches the salesmen to knock first. The ones that come back, anyway. The MAC tool van just pulls up and honks. Man in the brown toy van honks when he comes over the cattle guard into the yard..... only the bravest salesmen bother to come back. Those are the guys you gotta watch!! ;)

My Favorite .45/70 rifle. An 1874 Sharps with a modern barrel!

This is it! To me, the ultimate! However, not the latest and greatest! Not thee most powerful:D. BUT! Outstandingly accurate:cool:
I rebuilt this back in 1970-1971! Somebody had already butchered it. The collectors value was trashed and the BPCR had not come into its own, as yet! The Wolfgang Droge/Shiloh Sharps was being considered but C Sharps Arms was not even a dream.
However, I had a dream! This was it! I wish you could have seen it shoot! It was an experience, to say the least! The load was 80 Grains of FFg. CRUSHED into a modern solid head . 45/70 case and a Lyman 457132, 535 Grain Postell style bullet seated into the rifling much like a . 22 Match rifle chamber where the lands in the throat partially engrave the leading driving band of the bullet when the breach block cams the case into the chamber. The ammo was assembled so the bullet was sitting firmly on the powder so there was no air space between the bullet and powder. The bullet was not crimped into the case. Bullet lube was 50/50% Bees wax and Vasoline( a very original lube concoction)This load chronographed 1192 FPS average of 3 shots!

Check out this link in TDR for the description in post 25 and 2 pictures in post #26. I am not able to load these pictures separately for this post. Sorry!

Nothin' like a spud in the butt to get the message across!!! HA!!! :-laf Try some crushed ice next time..... that hurts!!! Builds more head pressure, though, so watch your fuel chamber!! I blew the threads out of my cap one time!!! Cap hit the barn and then my head!! Still didn't knock any sense in me, though... .
