I see threads on how to install the front cover seal with the cover on, but none that I can find say how to remove the old seal on 1st Gen. How about some help?
I haven't done this particular seal but have removed external seals by punching a small hole in the metal part of seal and screwing in a sheet metal screw then pulling old seal out. Just be careful with the screw and don't scratch the shaft surface. bg
Like stated above, I haven't done this seal. The 99 FSM shows the seal to be pressed in from the inner side of front cover so that makes the cheese much more binding. bg
I don't know how you could possibly get to the seal to push it back in, let alone manage to get it out, without taking the cover out of the truck... ... unless you pull the radiator, intercooler, etc. The cover is much easier.
