I purchased my 07 3500 drw 4x4 this summer and it is due for some tires. This is my first time getting 17" tires and there doesen't seam to be a huge amount of choices in the size the truck requires. I'm looking for somthing that will last a while and not wear out real fast but I also need somthing that will get me through the snow this winter and through the mud this summer. I pull a race car in the summer and the pits get a bit muddy some times and getting stuck at the track is no fun. I was kinda looking at a few BFgoodrich tires the all terrain and the rugged terrain. I was also looking at the goodyear dura trac. has anyone had any experience with these tires or what has worked good for you in the past?

I happy with the Michelin M+S. They were the stock tire at the time. I replaced the first set at 90,000km (~60,000mi) only because the sidewalls were cracking after seven years. There was lots of tread left. I wasn't the original owner so I have no idea how the tires were treated.

Firestone transforce I have been running firestone sice the 80s. Great heavy load tires.

Michelin LTX M/S worked great for me while I ran them, a little pricey but they did last alot longer. They are a quiet ride as well.

Firestone Transforce A/T or H/T are good choices. Readily available, pretty aggressive tread, relatively quiet. I put them on our porta potty trucks that take 16" tires. I haven't checked if they carry those in 17".

I'm very happy with my Nitto Dura Grapplers, and Michelin makes a great tire that you can't go wrong with.

just bought some nitto crossteks for my 2-wheel drive dually, don't know if they are severe enough for you but I love them in the rain, got a great deal at NTB with their buy 1 get 1 free, paid just over a $1,000 for 6 new e-rated tires

Nitto® CROSSTEK®

I've had good luck with Toyo M55's. Good in snow, rain, mud and I got 60k out of them. As soon as the stock tires wear out, I'm going back to M55's.

From the tires possibilities you mention, I'd go with the BF Goodrich All Terrains... They've been on every truck I've owned, and I just plunked down some serious coin to get six of them on my '08. I hear good things about the Rugged Terrains too, but I have no personal experience with them. I also have a friend that swears by the Dura Tracs, but I don't believe the make them in a proper load range for a dually (although I could be wrong about that).

I have a friend who is running the Rugged Terrains on his dually and got 50K miles out of his and replaced them with the same brand.

I'm going to get new tires after replacing the BJ's and free wheel kit,I'm going to give the Michelin LTX a try, they seem to have lots of good reviews on different websites.

I know a lot of people that are looking for reviews on the Nitto Crosstek (myself included). I've read everything online there is... I'm curious how they compare to what you had.

Me too, about another 10K miles and these stock Generals will be nothing left at 30k miles. I'm going to the Toyo M55's too.

This is my understanding from reading many threads all over the place:

For a dually owner wanting stockish sized tires:

Michelins previously mentioned for a great highway and snow country tire

M55 for those who want extra traction on gravel roads and farm fields.

BFG All terrains for those who don't want to pay for the Michelins

Another 'cheaper' tire instead of the Toyo M55 is the Cooper ST. had them on my 2005 Dually and they wore like iron...

I agree on the M55's as well.

I'm running the Goodyear Silent Armor 235's and like them very well. My only complaint is they're OWL tires so rotations are going to be expensive.

My next set will be M55.

my vote goes to Firestone Transforce AT's. They make them in 17" great tire. We run them at work and get between 50,000-70,000 depending on drivers.

I have the Goodyear Duratrac's and I like them. They are a good hauling tire, the side walls are great for towing/hauling and are not squirmish. I had Silent Armours (Goodyear) and got rid of them after towing my trailer a few times, they were so squirmish on the hi way that I felt like I had jello for tires, they made me nervous and I'm not a timmid driver. The dura tracs are awsome in the snow also and I have a set that are studded that I use just in the winter, and a half worn out set that I use in the summer for traveling and camping. They seem to be doing in the 50,000 km range, but I'm hard on them with towing and extra horse power.

I really like the Michelin LTX MS2 tires. The set I replaced last summer had 155,000 miles on them. That is not a typo. Keep the psi correct, rotate them at 6,000 miles and they will last. On my '01 I got 180,000 miles on the Michelins. Have great traction in the rain or snow.

Godspeed,
Trent

I just put a set of Kelly TSR's on my SRW. The tread is extremely aggressive, it looks like a mud tire but has lots of siping for snow. So far traction has been out of this world. Can't imagine getting stuck in anything. They ride nice and balanced well. They are a little noisier than others I have had although only because I am listening very intently for them. They are definitely silent compared to my 19. 5's. I can't say anything about how they will wear as I only have a thousand miles on them. I have had stock Michelins and Toyo Open Country AT's. I only got 40,000 miles out of each. I went with these tires because they were significantly cheaper than the BFG's, the aggressive tread, and that I only run these tires in the winter. Spring, summer and fall gets the 19. 5's.

I put on BFG Commercial TA`s and have to say they are alot better tire than the factory provided. Noticed difference in tire as soon as I drove it from the tire shop. Much better ride with TC on board for sure. Have towed a 30TT behind thru snow and was impressed, with the TC loade!d as well. Only 5K miles so far but likin them!

Any Michelin tire I vote for, had them in the past and liked them. I also had more than average mileage as well. But currently I have the General tire that came with my C&C. The General's really suck and I tried to get Dodge to put on another tire when I ordered it. They only have 36K and are just about gone. Michelins will easily double that or even triple that, if rotated properly
