Hey guys,

I'm looking to change my exhaust with a few upgrades. I was wondering what your opinions on this were. I don't want alot of noise while in tow, just trying to figure out the most efficient between the 4" or 5". I tow around 15000 # a couple of times a year, but its mostly a daily driver. I'm gonna get a Smarty jr next week, but truck is still bone stock. Thanks for your help

I have a 5" MBRP which I like, but I do not know of any 5" system that will not make noise, especially towing, unless you fit it with a large Donaldson muffler.

I would believe you would be best served by a quality 4" system.

You allready have 4" and that is sufficent unless your into real high HP, If you change anything dont expect any gains unless you want the noise, in which case Id pull the muffler and leave the Cat, sounds good and is cheap, the Cat really doesnt restrict it. Also 5" exh usually gets a real bad drone when towing.

Lots of very good advice here. Unless your just dying to make it loud and drone. .

If you want louder exhaust remove the muffler and weld in a straight pipe. As Edelheit stated, you won't see any performance gain.

When the exhaust rotted off the '04. 5, I replaced it with a 304 stainless MBRP 4" system. I also did a 304 stainless Silverline 4" system on the '07. Both are installed with the CAT. No drone, very little increase in sound in the cab, they look great, and will most likely outlast the trucks, even with the road salt here.

I also had a 304 stainless MBRP system on my former '01. It was perfect when I sold the truck. If you are replacing yours due to the factory system needing replacement, I would highly recommend going with a good quality system the first time out. You will not be sorry later.

Yep!!!... If its rotting out, replace it with either an MBRP or Silverline system... If road salt/corrosion arent an issue and the system is in good shape, either remove the muffler and do a Genos delete pipe, or install a Donaldson muffler.

If I had known it at the time, I would have just put a donaldson or straight pipe on my truck.

I have the 5" MBRP and like it, yes it is louder but no drone. I like the sound, a little lower pitch. I do agree you will not get any performance gains over a 4".

Thanks for the great info guys. I may try the geno's straight pipe. i really just like the deeper sound but again, I dont want it when i'm towing across country.
