I installed a BD killer B turbo on my 07 5. 9. I now get PO299 code for low boost extreamly randomly. I've replaced both the MAP and intake air temp sensors and made no difference. Has anyone come across this and found a solution?

F. Y. I. I have edge cs, S&B intake, 4" exhaust straight back.

yes, get a smaller exhaust housing the ecm thinks you have a leak i had a a3000 and it did just what you have and extremely random. it took about a year to figure it out. since then many others have had the same problem. it is nearly always with 14 cm exhaust housings

no bd will not take it back but they will sell you a smaller housing, it is easy to change or sell it on this site and get a 62-65-13

AFAIK, the Killer B was made specifically for the 325 engine. The smaller housing might solve the problem, but may require an adapter which will require you to shorten the engine pipe by about 2". If you're still using the stock manifold, I would use BD's manifold in its place, it flows much better than the stocker and has a split design to match the turbo.

It must be an 06 or later issue, because I have had two turbos with 14cm housings on my 03 with nary a problem.

Does the code cause limp mode or unusual behavior, or is it just a nuisance code? Do you like the performance of the turbo? Have you spoken to BD about this?

Yes the code puts the truck into limp mode. I do like the performance of the turbo and have been talking to BD about tracking down the problem. It seems they want to blame Edge.

The email i got today from BD today admits that it is the turbo and they just suggested maybe the Super-B instead. I think I'm going to look into getting EFI live and keep the turbo.

A Super B would be little gain, nothing really noticeable over your stock turbo.

If you can get an experienced tuner w/efi, to get that charger(killerb) spinning earlier and keep it turning, that maybe the ticket. I am fairly confident Smarty, with the correct options, would do a heck of allot better job than the Edge also. .

I had a slow, slow spooling II Silver62 on my 03, and my truck never threw a low boost code, and the boost would set at "0" cruising, all the time.

Good Luck resolving your dilemma, I am disappointed with BD's response to you, so easily writing off the Killer B, not what I would expect.

I do wonder if it's the 06+, or just the housing and a journal bearing. I have a ~16+ cm housing on my BB turbo and run much less boost than stock nearly all the time and have not seen that code in the 10K miles on my Garrett.

In addition to EFI Live you may consider a better exhaust manifold, the OEM is a 3/3 split but #4 is a HORRIBLE design and the ATS/BS really do help spool. Manifold blankets also help spool by pushing more thermal energy thru the turbine.

WE can now kill the the P0299 code. shoot me an email and lets give it a try. Thanks

trash can the edge and take bob up on his offer

There you go HDR, not even a Smarty owner, and Smarty/Bob stepping up to help!

That is the caliber of support the Mads crew have continued to provide, whether or not you are a customer...

UPDATE

So to try and figure this P0299 code out I've installed the factory turbo, removed the Edge with attitude and I still get it! I came on today when towing my 5th wheel with about 20lbs of boost pressure!

I've pressured the whole intake and didn't find a air leak. I hooked my fluke multimeter to the MAP sensor and get 4. 99V ( I know i should have 5V and I don't know if this is a problem ). The circuit to the ECM for the boost pressure is 1. 27V at no pressure and will rise as I apply air pressure to the intake.

I am at my wits end. I'm very close to burning this truck down with some home made napalm!

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks again.

1. 27 should be right on the money for near sea level without boost. I have to wonder if it raises correctly thou, or if the other sensor is dirty/broken (one right after the air filter).
