how does it work to hollow out the dpf? will performance/mpg improve or stay the same? and does it throw codes?

Because I'm in an emissions inspection county, they do a visual to ensure everything's intact. I hollowed-out the DPF and CAT so I could pass visual.

Pretty much the same as having a straight delete pipe (which is now stored in my barn shed).

You will have a lot more noise, and a black tail pipe with black smoke when you stand on it, your MPG won't change

Ron, How can you say your MPG will not improve?

My mileage in 08-09 went from 11. 78 MPG City/highway (75/25) and towing mileage of 9. 83 MPG. I then deleted an for the year 10/11 14. 67 MPG City/Highway (75/25) and towing mileage 12. 37 MPG. These numbers are all hand calculated from actual mileage driven and gallons added. I track ever gallon of fuel that goes into my truck and car.

I also have no smoke from my truck since I do not over fuel the engine. My tail pipe is black but that is OK.

The only sound difference is the E-brake when it is turn on at High Idle sounds like a jet engine.

Some of us do use a muffler in the exhaust.

Eh, Ive heard of them using the hand help infrared thermometers to detect hollowed cats and DPF's since it wont get hot if its hollowed. Might not ever be a problem but just sayin its not a foolproof setup.

I have to smog check my first Diesel in Commifornia in a couple of months and will find out what is required. I've heard that it must pass a OBDII test for that MY, I'll be finding out soon. Good thing it's bone stock.
