BFG now makes a E rated A/T 285/70/17. Do people still have issues with the E rated ones?

One thing i noticed was the "E" 285/70/17 BFG A/T weighs like 57lbs, 6 more than the "D".
The Toyo M/T ina 285/75/17 weighs 70lbs.

I know they are not the same exact size, but 13lbs difference seems like a lot to me.

I dont know anyone who has ran E rated BFG's but I know people who want with another D rated tire and no longer had DW, Ive had D rated tires for the last 6 years with no problems, Yokohama Geolander AT/S is a great tire for a DD that doesnt tow heavy.

Ran 2 sets of BFG 285x75x16's on my 97. 2 sets of 315's on my 04. Tires wear great. The reason I am using BFG's is they have a 3 ply side wall. Everyone else seems to use a 2 ply. Much stiffer than others I have seen. At my ranch in S. Texas I always worry about thorns or bush hogged stubble puncturing the side wall. So far only a 20 penny nail. Had the hole patched (against the advice of the tire shop) and put another 20k on it.

These tires are too wide for stock rims and would wear better on a 9" rim. To keep the outer edges wearing even I run 40# on the front and 35# on the back when running unloaded. Much smoother ride also. And, no they don't get hot when running @ 70MPH in 100F heat.

I've ridden behind my friend's '05 3500 qclb w/utility bed and Callen camper. He insists on running BFG 315's. I can say in this case the tires are overwhelmed. At max psi of 50 his sidewalls bulge bigtime and the truck suffers from tailwag even with custom suspension. He's also experienced sidewall failure aired down offroad.

On the other hand, another buddy has an '07 of similiar weight. He runs 285-75-17 Toyo AT's. Riding in the truck, there is absolutely no sensation of tire squirm or tailwag. He drives aired down in Baja for extended periods with no sidewall issues. Once again he has custom offroad suspension. Similiar trucks, but with very different tires and handling characteristics.

The BFG 315x16's work great on my 94 but I CAN NOT run them(17) on the 05. DW on tottally tight front end. I am sure if they did a redesign on that size for our trucks they would sell like hot cakes. The BFG works so well in so many types of terrain. The Toyo's are indistructible but a bit pricey for the tread life. I hear the BFGs in 37 do not dw... ... ... ... but are not a true 37".

Oh 37's DW, ask jake about the time we took his truck to meet brad right after you dropped his truck off at Carli from getting the steering update and the stabs weren't recharged, it DW from the tracks on Batavia to carlis shop
