This is been on the last 2 Cascadia Trucks that have come in.

Watch the video, it's quite an idea.

Also a couple of videos of the Detroit Engine Plant, if you have time watch those. I have been through that plant and it is some kind of impressive.

Did You Know? Detroit™ Virtual Technician onboard diagnostic system

comes standard on every EPA 2010 Freightliner truck with a Detroit™

engine. It keeps you connected with your truck, giving you control and

confidence.

Here’s How: With the Virtual Technician onboard diagnostic system, data

is immediately collected when the check engine light comes on. It

generates a technical snapshot of the engine’s status before, during and

after a fault code event. The information is relayed to the fleet

manager or predetermined contact via email that provides

Fault code and description

Problem severity (how soon the engine needs service)

Nearest service locations

Contact information for the Customer Support Center (CSC)

Virtual Technician takes the guesswork out of engine repair, allowing

you to get the wheels turning again as quickly as possible.

So does that mean my old tattle tale "tach-o-graph" is obsolete??:-laf

Nick

Yes, the Tach-O-Graph is toast... ... . :D

It is quite a thing when you think about it, you have a fleet of trucks loose and one throws a check engine light. That is sent via satellite to the DDC center where the determination is made if it is a harmful code or not.

They e-mail the maintentance manager who can then find a servicing location, find out if they stock the parts needed and get it in. Or if it is not a severe code the fleet can rotate the truck out of service when it reterns to the terminal.

I noticed a small antenna on those last two new trucks (looks like a satellite radio antenna) I checked the specs by VIN, trucks did not have satellite radios in them so I started asking questions.

The antenna is for the Virtual Technician.

Kinda' neat stuff, really.
